Today’s Best NHL Bets

Here are today’s best NHL bets:

  • Winnipeg Jets (Moneyline) +145

Winnipeg coming off a 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens, but Connor Hellebuyck always seems to bounce back. They’ll be outmatched in Toronto on Thursday, but +145 implies that they will only win around 40 percent of the time and that just doesn’t add up.

The Jets aren’t as good as the Maple Leafs, but they’re tied for the second-most wins in the NHL right now and If Hellebuyck is in goal, their chances of pulling off an upset are much better than the odds suggest.

  • Washington Capitals (Moneyline) -200

Washington has struggled since Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom joined the team, and they miss John Carlson’s contributions (specifically on offense), but c’mon. The Capitals’ odds should be much higher than they currently are. Especially if Darcy Kuemper is in goal. Even if Charlie Lindgren ends up starting, the Capitals are a value bet at -200.

The Coyotes have had their moments at Mullet Arena, with upset wins over Boston and Toronto, but they have had just as many let downs. The Capitals’ power play hasn’t been great, but Arizona’s penalty kill is among the worst in the league and the road team should control the game at five-on-five. The Coyotes’ expected goal share is just 42 percent on home ice this season.

Today’s Starting Goaltenders

  • Winnipeg – Connor Hellebuyck is the projected to start in Toronto.
  • Toronto – Matt Murray allowed four goals on eight shots against Florida, but Ilya Samsonov came in and earned himself a start.
  • Boston – Jeremy Swayman is expected to start.
  • Rangers – Why wouldn’t the Rangers start Igor Shesterkin?
  • Florida – Spencer Knight will return to the crease at some point, but for now, Sergei Bobrovsky is the projected starter.
  • Montreal – Samuel Montembeault is the starter until Jake Allen returns from injury later this month.
  • Minnesota – Filip Gustavsson is 11-4 in his last 15 games and the Wild would be smart to start him in Carolina on Thursday.
  • Carolina – Frederik Andersen is projected to start.
  • Chicago – Petr Mrazek earned a win against Buffalo, and he is expected to start against his old team.
  • Philadelphia – Carter Hart is expected to be back in the crease.
  • Anaheim – John Gibson will likely be back between the pipes on Thursday.
  • Columbus – Elvis Merzlikins is expected to start unless Joonas Korpisalo’s personal matter is resolved.
  • Islanders – Ilya Sorokin had Wednesday off and is expected to start on Thursday.
  • Buffalo – It seems like Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is the Sabres’ No. 1 guy.
  • Nashville – Juuse Saros has started 33 games this season and he’ll likely start another one Thursday.
  • St. Louis – The Blues will likely go with Jordan Binnington in this divisional matchup.
  • Tampa Bay – Andrei Vasilevskiy had Wednesday night off, so he is expected to start Thursday.
  • Edmonton – Stuart Skinner hasn’t started since Jan. 9th.
  • Washington – Darcy Kuemper has been resting for a couple of days.
  • New Jersey Devils – Vitek Vanecek is rolling, having won six in a row.
  • Seattle Kraken – Martin Jones has allowed five goals in each of his last two games, maybe they go with Philipp Grubauer on Thursday.
  • Detroit Red Wings – Ville Husso is expected to start.
  • Vegas Golden Knights – This is the first of three games in four days for Vegas, Logan Thompson is the projected starter, as teams almost always split back-to-back games between their starter and backup.
  • Dallas Stars – Jake Oettinger started on Wednesday in San Jose and that means Scott Wedgewood is expected to start in Los Angeles on Thursday.
  • Los Angeles Kings – Pheonix Copley is projected to start.
