NHL Predictions – Sunday, October 27:

Just four games on the Sunday NHL schedule, but all four games have some prominent betting trends that come into play. All four betting favorites are greater than -175, so I will attack these games with various prop bets. Enjoy the day on ice.

Edmonton Oilers (-250, 6.5) at Detroit Red Wings

6 p.m. ET

The Edmonton Oilers will look to put together back-to-back wins for the second time this season when they face off against the Detroit Red Wings today in Detroit. Edmonton opened as a (-190) road favorite, and the Oilers are getting hammered by bettors as they have shot up to a (-250) favorite.

The Oilers have won four of the five previous meetings versus the Red Wings, scoring four or more goals as well as covering the puck line in three of the four wins. Edmonton has scored four goals in all three of their wins this season.

The Wings lost 5-3 in Buffalo on Saturday, as Alex Lyon was beaten for four goals on 38 shots. Look for former Oilers goalie Cam Talbot to get the start tonight. Talbot has won two of his three starts this season and sports a 3.21 GAA, but a respectable .913 save percentage. Lifetime, Talbot is 4-2-1 versus the Oilers (1.92 GAA, .937 save percentage), but has lost his last two decisions to Edmonton as a member of the Los Angeles Kings. There is no one more excited to see Talbot getting the start for Detroit than the Oilers Victor Arvidsson. Arvidsson has 10 goals in 11 games versus Talbot.

Two Detroit players that I will focus on today are Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane. DeBrincat has nine goals and 15 points in 19 career games versus Oilers and three goals in three games against Oilers expected starting goalie, Stuart Skinner. Patrick Kane has nine goals and 15 points in 19 games versus the Oilers.

Plays: Alex DeBrincat over ½ point (-135) – 1 unit

         Patrick Kane over ½ point (-145) – 1 unit

Alex DeBrincat anytime goal (+210) – ½ unit

Victor Arvidsson anytime goal (+200) – ½ unit

        Connor McDavid/Leon Draisaitl parlay over ½ pt each (+.6) – 1 unit

Anaheim Ducks at New Jersey Devils (-345, 6.5)

7 p.m. ET

Anaheim is coming off a 2-1 loss on Saturday to the Rangers at MSG to kick off a four-game road Eastern road trip. The Ducks won both contests versus the Devils last season as heavy underdogs (+200, +240). Neither of those games were on the back end of a back-to-back where Anaheim finds themselves tonight. The Ducks were 2-8 last season on the back end of back-to-backs and have lost their only game this season in this scenario. The Ducks’ Troy Terry is riding a six-game point streak (4 goals, 2 assists) and has nine points in seven games versus the Devils.

New Jersey has lost four straight, five of six and have given up four goals or more in all five losses. Bettors aren’t discouraged by the Devils recent struggles. They opened as a (-325) home favorite and bet up to (-345) taking in 93% of the bets and 80% of the money according to the VSiN bet splits page.

New Jersey’s Jesper Bratt is riding a four-game point streak (1 goal, 4 assists) and has 14 points in 11 games versus Anaheim. Two other New Jersey players worth focusing on are Timo Meier who has 28 points in 30 games versus the Devils and Stefan Noesen has five goals in nine games against the Ducks.

Plays: Troy Terry over ½ point (-110) – 1 unit

Stefan Noesen anytime goal (+330) – ¼ unit

          Timo Meier/Jesper Bratt over ½ point parlay (+36) – 1 unit

Montreal Canadiens at Philadelphia Flyers (-175, 6.5)

7 p.m. ET

The Flyers and Canadiens are both coming off victories on Saturday and in the process both teams put an end to extended losing streaks. Montreal’s 5-2 win over the Blues ended a four-game losing streak as Cole Caufield scored his seventh goal of the season.

Sean Couturier (3 goals, 2 assists) and Travis Konecny (1 goal, 4 assists) each had five-point games as the Flyers handed the Minnesota Wild their first loss in regulation and snapped their six-game losing streak in their 7-5 win over the Wild.

The back end of back to backs have been unkind to the Canadiens.  Montreal was 1-12 last season in this spot and lost their only game in the scenario this season. I don’t have the numbers handy, but if memory serves me correct, play the favorite when both teams played the previous day. I am not crazy about playing the Flyers as a heavy favorite though betting favorites this season (-175 to -199) are 12-6 and 10 of the 12 favorites to cash have covered the puck line (-1.5 goals). All 12 teams won their games in regulation.

Plays: Philadelphia Flyers in regulation (-105) – 1.5 units

         Cole Caufield/Nick Suzuki over ½ point parlay (+74) – ½ unit

Ottawa Senators at Colorado Avalanche (-175, 6.5)

7 p.m. ET

After opening the season with four straight losses the Avalanche have rebounded and are riding a four-game win streak. Colorado has outscored their opponents 16-7 in their four wins after surrendering 25 goals in their four losses. Colorado’s four wins have come against Anaheim, San Jose, Seattle and Utah. None of the four has a winning record. Today, they face an Ottawa team who blew three leads to the Golden Knights on Friday and saw a 4-3 third period lead turn into a 6-4 loss. Vegas scored five times on 27 shots on Senator goalie, Linus Ullmark.

The Avalanche and in particular playing in Colorado have been a nightmare for the Senators. Ottawa has lost five straight in Colorado, four straight overall and eight of the last 10 meetings. Colorado has scored four or more goals in their last six wins versus the Senators. Nine of the last 10 and 17 of the last 20 games have gone over the posted total and 14 of those games have had a combined seven goals or more.

Plays: Colorado Avalanche in regulation (-115) – 1 unit

         Colorado Avalanche TT over 3.5 (-130) – 1 unit

         Colorado/Ottawa Over 6.5 (-120) – 1 unit
