NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Here are tonight’s NHL predictions and best bets.
Carolina Hurricanes at Montreal Canadiens
Carolina (-120) at Montreal (+100) – Total 6 (Over, -125)
7 p.m. ET
Tonight marks the first meeting between these teams since Carolina eliminated Montreal in last year’s Eastern Conference final. While the Habs came up short in the postseason against the Hurricanes, they have won each of the last four regular-season matchups with Carolina.
Montreal’s Cole Caufield has goals in each of the last three regular-season meetings versus Carolina, while Nick Suzuki has five goals and 10 points in the last six meetings.
A couple of Carolina player props caught my eye in this game. Quebec native William Carrier is playing on the top line with Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, and we are getting a great price for his anytime goal prop. Two Hurricanes players have good numbers against Montreal: Nikolaj Ehlers has 21 points in 23 games and Shayne Gostisbehere has 18 assists in 26 games.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Will Carrier anytime goal (+650) – ¼ unit
Nikolaj Ehlers point/Shayne Gostisbehere assist (+208) – ½ unit
Cole Caufield anytime goal (+140) – ½ unit
Nick Suzuki/Cole Caufield point parlay (-134) – 1 unit
Jakub Dobes Over 26.5 saves (-115) – ½ unit
Nashville Predators at Toronto Maple Leafs
Nashville (+125) at Toronto (-150) – Total 5.5 (Over, -135)
7 p.m. ET
I don’t have a read yet on the Maple Leafs, who have scored just two goals in each of their three games (one win, two losses). Nashville split its first two games, but, like the Maple Leafs, the Predators have struggled to score goals, finding the back of the net just three times.
Toronto’s Auston Matthews, who scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s loss to Ottawa, has owned the Predators, especially in their games played in Toronto, with three straight two-goal games and putting up five, seven and four shots on goal. He also has four goals in six games against goalie Juuse Saros, who gets the start tonight. Matthews has 11 goals in 16 games against Nashville and leads the Maple Leafs after two games with 10 shots on goal. Veteran John Tavares is looking for his first goal of the season. Why not tonight? Tavares has six goals in nine games against Saros.
On the Nashville side, it’s been a slow start for newcomer Mavrik Bourque, who signed a big deal in the off-season. Bourque is without a point after two games and has just two shots on goal. He has goals (5) in three straight versus Toronto and three or more shots on goal in three of four meetings (7, 4, 1, 3).
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Auston Matthews anytime goal (+150) – ½ unit
Auston Matthews 4+ shots on goal (-115) – 1 unit
John Tavares anytime goal (+220) – ¼ unit
Mavrik Bourque anytime goal (+500) – ¼ unit
Mavrik Bourque 2+ shots on goal (-145) – 1 unit
Ottawa Senators at Detroit Red Wings
Ottawa (-115) at Detroit (-105) – Total 6 (Under, -118)
7 p.m. ET
Ottawa is coming off a 4-1 win over the Bruins on Monday in Boston, thanks to a pair of goals by Tim Stutzle. The victory may have come at a price as No. 1 goalie Linus Ullmark left after two periods, the result of a collision with the Bruins’ J.J. Peterka. Sens coach Travis Green said it was for precautionary reasons and Peterka will be evaluated on Tuesday. Samuel Ersson played the third period, stopping eight of nine shots.
Scoring has been problematic for Detroit, with just two goals through two games, but that could change tonight as Dylan Larkin will make his season debut. Larkin will center the top line between Lucas Raymond and Viktor Arvidsson. Arvidsson has eight goals in 12 games against the Senators.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Lucas Raymond/Dylan Larkin point parlay (-102) – ½ unit
Stephen Halliday anytime goal (+600) – ¼ unit
Viktor Arvidsson anytime goal (+230) – ¼ unit
Utah Mammoth at New Jersey Devils
Utah (+110) at New Jersey (-130) – Total 6 (-110)
7 p.m. ET
The Mammoth ended their four-game losing streak to the Chicago Blackhawks in their home opener and now look to snap their four-game skid against the Devils. New Jersey hasn’t played since getting rocked 6-0 by the Islanders on Saturday.
New Jersey would do itself a favor by staying out of the penalty box. The Mammoth have scored on six of their nine chances with the extra man, led by Dylan Guenther with three and Nick Schmaltz with two. Four of Clayton Keller’s five assists have come on the power play. DraftKings offers Utah to score a power-play goal at -125.
Timo Meier leads New Jersey with 10 shots on goal (4, 6) and has registered three shots on goal or more in seven of his last eight games against the Mammoth. Dougie Hamilton is second on the team with nine shots on goal and has recorded at least three shots on goal in each of the last four and five of the last six meetings with Utah.
When it comes to goal props, Utah’s Anders Lee has five goals on 19 shots (26.3%) against Jersey goalie Jake Allen. For the Devils, Anthony Mantha is looking for his first goal with his new team, and if history is any indication, he has a good chance. Mantha has four goals (17 shots) in seven games against Utah starting goalie Karel Vejmelka. Fourth-liner Jesper Boqvist will make his season debut tonight. He has three goals on eight shots in five games against Vejmelka.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Jesper Boqvist anytime goal (+950) – .15 units
Anthony Mantha anytime goal (+320) – ¼ unit
Anders Lee anytime goal (+375) – ¼ unit
Clayton Keller assist/Vincent Trocheck point (+175) – ½ unit
Utah Over ½ power-play goal (-125) – ½ unit
Timo Meier 3+ shots on goal (-128) – 1 unit
Dougie Hamilton 3+ shots on goal (+132) – 1 unit
Vegas Golden Knights at Seattle Kraken
Vegas (-170) at Seattle (+140) – Total 6 (Over, -115)
9:40 p.m. ET
The Golden Knights come to Seattle fresh off a 3-2 win at Vancouver on Sunday night and face a Kraken team that owns a pair of 6-1 wins over Calgary, sandwiched around a 3-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Vegas has won two of its three games to start the season and has done so by spreading the offense. Ten Golden Knights players have scored a goal, with Victor Olofsson (two goals, both on the PP) the only Knights player with more than one.
Climate Pledge Arena has not been an easy place for the Golden Knights to play. They’ve lost their last three visits, all decided in overtime or shootout. Last season, the Kraken won three of the four meetings overall.
Vegas star Jack Eichel has 16 assists in 15 career games versus Seattle, and Mitch Marner is right behind him with 11 assists in 12 games. Seattle’s Jordan Eberle has had at least two shots on goal in 12 of 14 games versus the Golden Knights.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Jack Eichel/Mitch Marner Over ½ assist parlay (+175) – 1 unit
Jordan Eberle 2+ shots on goal (-115) – 1 unit
Victor Olofsson anytime goal (+340) – ¼ unit
Victor Olofsson Over ½ Power Play point (+500) – ¼ unit
