2025 Roland Garros best bets for Tuesday, May 27th
The second major of the 2025 tennis season is here. The top players in the world are in Paris, France for the 2025 French Open over the next two weeks, and the action in Roland Garros should be awesome to monitor. I’ll be posting daily best bets throughout the tournament, so VSiN is the place to be if you like betting on tennis. If you aren’t already a subscriber, I’d suggest looking into becoming a VSiN Pro soon. I constantly provide analysis on all of the biggest events, and this is the best time of the year for this sport.
I’d also strongly suggest checking the Pro Picks page throughout the day. That’s where Gill Alexander will be posting his French Open best bets. Gill does a tremendous job handicapping tennis on A Numbers Game, which is a staple of our live VSiN programming. Also, while I try to write up as many of my plays as possible, I do occasionally add things to that page throughout the day. That’s also where I post plays for smaller ATP and WTA events, and my Challenger-level plays live exclusively on that page.
With all of that out of the way, let’s get into some French Open picks for Day 3 on Tuesday, May 27th.
Joao Fonseca vs. Hubert Hurkacz
There’s seemingly a ton of sharp money on Fonseca, who I’m probably higher on than anyone. The Brazilian undoubtedly has the talent to do big things at Roland Garros, and a nice mini-run this year isn’t out of the question. I also can’t fault anybody that thinks Fonseca is going to beat Hurkacz, whose game isn’t a great fit for clay. Hurkacz also hasn’t been great since returning from his knee injury. However, we did see a little something from the Pole in Geneva last week. Hurkacz earned straight-set wins over Arthur Cazaux, Arthur Rinderknech, Taylor Fritz and Sebastian Ofner at that event, and he then lost a tight one against Novak Djokovic. That was a 5-7, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2) victory for the Serbian, and Hurkacz was up a break in the third. So, all in all, it was a really good week for the 28-year-old, meaning he’s in pretty good form entering this week’s major.
If I had to take a side in this match, I’d probably lean Hurkacz as a plus-money play. I just know that his serve is going to give him a chance, and Fonseca is on a three-match losing streak at the moment. Fortunately, I don’t have to pick a side. The total is an option, and it looks like a damn good one.
I’m playing Over 38.5 games in this match, and I’m surprised this alternate number is available at such a reasonable price. This really should be a match in which both players have a lot of success with the ball on their racquets. I know the conditions in Roland Garros are supposed to make things much easier on the returner, and they undoubtedly will. However, Hurkacz is such a stronger server that it shouldn’t matter. He’s going to hit a ton of unreturnable serves with his combination of spot-serving and power, and he’s also going to set himself up for a lot of plus-one opportunities. Meanwhile, Fonseca is a good enough server to take advantage of Hurkacz’s 15.5% break percentage over the last 52 weeks.
I simply don’t see either of these players winning in straight sets, and I’d be surprised if we don’t see a tiebreaker or two. If I’m right about that, it’s going to be hard for this to go Under.
Bet: Over 38.5 Games (-126 – 1.5 units)
Solana Sierra vs. Yulia Putintseva
This could be a bit of a roller coaster. If Putintseva plays to her best ability, she should win this match. But it has been quite some time since she has done anything close to that. The world No. 31 lost 6-0, 6-4 against Rebecca Sramkova in Strasbourg, and that came after Putintseva pulled out of the quarterfinals of a 125 in Parma. Is she healthy right now? Putintseva is just 10-12 since the start of the 2025 season, and that’s a major drop-off when considering she was 35-19 last year. That said, it feels like she’s truly on Upset Watch early in this tournament. And she happens to have gotten a tough opening-round opponent.
Sierra is a highly-talented 20-year-old that has been winning matches at a high clip in some lower-level events this year. She won a title in a W75 earlier in April, then she made the quarterfinals of a W100 in Wiesbaden. Sierra also happened to earn a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Viktorija Golubic in the Paris 125 event a few weeks ago, and that’s a player that has had WTA-level success. Then, Sierra came to Roland Garros and breezed through her qualifying matches. Sierra won in straight sets against Susan Bandecchi, Daria Snigur and Xiyu Wang. All three of those players are solid, so Sierra is in good form and extremely comfortable with these conditions.
Sierra just has the ability to trouble Putintseva, as she’s powerful and plays very aggressive tennis. And if Putintseva isn’t on with her ball-striking, this should be a match. That’s why I’m paying up a bit to take Sierra to win a set, but I’m also taking some moneyline.
Bet: Sierra +1.5 Sets (-162 – 1.5 units) & Sierra ML (+163 – 0.5 units)
