Doha, Buenos Aires, Delray Beach, Marseille tennis best bets for February 14th

This week, the top women in the world are in Doha for the Qatar TotalEnergies Open. This is the first 1000-level WTA event of the season, and I’ll be writing up tennis best bets for this one all week. Meanwhile, the men are scattered all over the globe, as there are 250-level tournaments in Buenos Aires, Delray Beach and Marseille. I’m only going to be writing up the 500-level events this season, so you’ll find my men’s plays on the Pro Picks page this week. That said, keep reading for my Doha best bets for Friday, February 14th, and check out the picks page for all of my action for Buenos Aires, Delray Beach and Marseille.

I’m going to quickly hit on some of my favorite picks below, and I occasionally add some picks throughout the day. Schedules can get wonky with the international nature of the sport, and I also like to see how odds are moving. That said, keep checking the picks page every couple of hours if you want more of my picks.

Jelena Ostapenko vs. Iga Swiatek – Doha

I won’t get too much into this match, as I would be laying off completely if I didn’t have a future on Swiatek. However, considering I risked 1.5 units on the Pole to win this tournament at +400, I’d like to think some people followed suit and did the same. Well, if you did, I’d suggest grabbing Ostapenko at +290 to win whatever it is you risked on Swiatek.

Of course, Swiatek has won this tournament three years in a row, and she is at her very best in these conditions. We saw that in her 6-2, 7-5 win over Elena Rybakina last round. And I really am not worried about Swiatek handling her business against the winner of the other semi-final showdown. But Ostapenko is 4-0 against Swiatek in her career, making her the only player on the WTA Tour that has faced the Pole more than once and has a winning record to show for it. The Latvian just has no fear when she steps on the court, and she’s the definition of an alpha. That’s a lot for Swiatek to deal with. She can be very anxious on the court, and seeing the fire and aggression on the other side of the net is troubling for her.

I do think Swiatek will be able to find a way to win this match, as she has made improvements to her game in 2025 and Ostapenko can still be miserable on the right day. But considering what it’d cost to mitigate risk, it’d be irresponsible not to hedge this play a little.

HEDGE: Ostapenko ML (+290 to win 1.5 units)

Amanda Anisimova vs. Ekaterina Alexandrova – Doha

I’m not going crazy with my units on the other match, but I do find it hard to lay off Alexandrova at the moment. Not only is the Russian into the semifinals in Doha, but she won a title in Linz a couple of weeks ago. She’s playing about as well as anybody on tour right now, and I think she’s going to be a tough matchup for Anisimova.

Both of these players have the ability to rack up winners, and they both have big serves. But Anisimova is a little more mistake-prone, and Alexandrova has shown a lot of on-court toughness this week — both physically and mentally. The fact that Alexandrova dropped the opening set against Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula and came back to win both matches says a lot. She’s making in-match adjustments and staying calm during rough stretches. That should help her find a way to beat Anisimova, who can be hot-headed.

Alexandrova also happened to beat Anisimova in straight sets in Madrid in 2022. That was the most recent meeting between these players, and the first was a straight-set win for the American at this very tournament in 2020. That does set up an interesting debate. Should you care more about Anisimova beating Alexandrova in these exact conditions, or does the 30-year-old’s ability to adjust and flip the script matter more? I go with the latter. But either way, I’m not passing up -125 odds on one of the hottest players in tennis right now.

Bet: Alexandrova ML (-125)
