2025 Record: 845-831-1 (+25.33 units)
Belinda Bencic vs. Mirra Andreeva
My pre-tournament thoughts on Andreeva would make for some good “freezing cold takes” posts on X. I never thought she lacked the game required to compete on grass, but I was concerned about her mentality. After her loss to Lois Boisson at Roland Garros, she just seemed to be in a fragile state of mind. We then saw some weak performances after. And for a player that needs to be tough from the baseline, it was hard to trust her coming in. She doesn’t have the ability to just out-muscle opponents and win easy points, so she needs to be ready to compete on a daily basis. Well, Andreeva has definitely done that in London, and her wins over Hailey Baptiste and Emma Navarro were especially impressive. But I am looking to fade Andreeva again in the quarterfinals, and that’s strictly out of respect for her opponent.
Bencic is just a remarkable grass-court player, as she has a record of 50-23 on this surface. That 68.3% winning percentage is the best she has on any surface, and she has won a lot of big matches on grass in her career. Bencic is also coming off one of the more impressive performances of the tournament, as she took out a red-hot Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets. Alexandrova had just mopped the floor with Bencic in Bad Homburg, and there were a lot of reasons to believe she’d do it again. But Bencic is a different player at the Slam level, and she’s great at preparing herself for matches. So, she came correct in the fourth round, and I expect her to give Andreeva some trouble here.
Bencic is a very smart player, so I expect her to target the Andreeva forehand in a way some of the Russian’s previous opponents weren’t able to. Bencic’s break percentage in 2025 is also a career-high 38.4%, so she’s going to be able to put some pressure on the Andreeva serve. The Swiss star just needs to serve well herself. She can be a little shaky with the ball on her racquet, and Andreeva is an elite returner. That’s where she might run into trouble, but she’s too solid of a player not to bite on this set spread and moneyline price.
Bet: Bencic +1.5 Sets (-143 – 1.5 units) & Bencic ML (+200 – 0.5 units)
Additional Thoughts: Ben Shelton vs. Jannik Sinner & Liudmila Samsonova vs. Iga Swiatek
The Sinner MRI results aren’t out yet, but I did hear some positive stuff regarding the elbow. Sinner also ended up hitting some balls on Tuesday, which is generally a good sign. On top of that, Sinner’s coach, Darren Cahill, was rather upbeat about things when talking on the ESPN panel after Tuesday’s matches. All of that led to me posting a play on Sinner to win the tournament at +460 (risking 0.5 units) to the VSiN picks page. As long as the Italian is even 80% healthy, he should beat Shelton and have a shot at winning this event. And having Sinner and Novak Djokovic to win the tournament at good prices is smart considering one of them will likely be in the final.
As far as the Swiatek match, this isn’t one I’m playing because I do have the Pole to win the tournament at +800 odds. However, Swiatek -3.5 games is incredibly tempting. She has absolutely demolished Samsonova in each of their last three meetings, and her improvements on grass make it hard to envision that changing. Swiatek has also gotten by a few ball bashers in the last few rounds, including Danielle Collins and Clara Tauson. That should mean she’ll be prepared for another one.
