The best advice I heard on the new episode of Long Shots, VSiN’s golf betting podcast?
Wait as long as you can before placing your British Open bets so you get a better sense of the weather at the Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.
Wes Reynolds and Kelley Bydlon offer plenty more advice, but rain and wind always seem to play a role in the British Open. Rain is in the forecast Thursday with winds up to 25 mph.
As they point out, favorite Scottie Scheffler (+450) goes off early on Thursday and Rory McIlroy (+750) tees off in the afternoon so they could be facing different conditions. Or not. It’s the British Open, after all.
Waiting till the last second is easier said than done. Round 1 starts at 1:35 a.m. ET Thursday, available on Peacock. (That’s the only reason I have Peacock, although I highly recommend “The Day of the Jackal.”)
As we’ve seen in recent majors, correctly sizing up the LIV Tour players is another important success factor.
In his Best Bets article, Wes has two LIV players among his eight outright picks:
Jon Rahm (16-1): This has been a winless campaign for Rahm, but he has rediscovered his game in majors with top-10 finishes in both the PGA and U.S. Open. Rahm has also finished seventh or better in three of the last four Open Championships. It’s been quiet for Rahm on LIV, where he might be a little bit out of sight and out of mind, but he has finished inside the top 10 in nine of 10 events on that circuit.
Tom McKibbin (150-1): McKibbin is a member at Royal Portrush. The Northern Irishman is a teammate of Rahm’s on the LIV circuit, and he has been playing good golf there with top-five finishes in his last two events, including a fourth last weekend at Valderrama. McKibbin has six top-7 finishes worldwide this season.

Wes says he will post more plays (placement markets) on the golf picks page late Wednesday.
MLB swing-off hacks off some bettors
Did you get a win, loss or push on the MLB All-Star Game?
Well, it depends where you bet.
Tuesday’s All-Star Game was tied at 6 after nine innings, requiring the first home run “swing-off” to determine the winner.
ICYMI: A swing-off — 3 batters from each team, 3 swings per batter, team with more homers wins.
The NL won 4-3, thanks to Kyle Schwarber’s perfect 3-for-3. Schwarber (+4000) was named MVP.
Circa Sports and Caesars ruled the moneyline bet a push. DraftKings Sportsbook and FanDuel graded it a win for the NL.
I posted the question “Did your sportsbook rule the MLB All-Star Game a push or NL win on moneyline?” on X.
Let’s just say bettors’ opinions on the rulings were correlated to their bet.
