Colts’ Hail Mary play

The Colts’ QB situation went from extremely bad to worse, confirming that Daniel Jones is out for the season with an Achilles injury and adding that backup Riley Leonard has a knee injury that puts his Week 15 status in doubt.

Indianapolis moved from a 10.5-point underdog vs. the Seahawks to +12.5 after the Leonard injury was revealed Monday – and then went to +13.5 on the news that retired 44-year-old grandfather Philip Rivers will work out for the team today.

Neither team nor player has made a decision on the idea, but it shows the Colts’ desperation to stay in playoff contention. Rivers last played in 2020, for the Colts.

As long as we’re on the topic of QBs, there are no definitive injury updates on Jayden Daniels (elbow), Geno Smith (shoulder) and Tyrod Taylor (groin). But the Browns did announce that Shedeur Sanders will be their starter for the rest of the season.

MNF recap: The Chargers beat the error-prone Eagles 22-19 in overtime on MNF. The line closed Chargers +1.5 at DraftKings, but steamed to a pick’em at Circa. The Total just snuck Under the consensus 42. It certainly was in danger as the Eagles were driving for the tying field goal in OT, but the game ended on Jalen Hurts’ red-zone interception. Hurts had four interceptions and one fumble, including one of each on the same play.

Thanks to Zach Cohen and Steve Makinen for their fine advice in yesterday’s email. No sweat, right?

Contest Corner: Speaking of sweats, Circa Survivor will head to Week 15 with 10 live entries vying for $18.7 million. One entry was eliminated with the Eagles’ loss.

If the T-Shoe fits . . .

VSiN contributor Tyler Shoemaker has updated his T-Shoe Index power ratings now that CFP first-round pairings are set.

Here is what he had to say about Oklahoma vs. Alabama (-1.5/40.5):

One of Alabama’s three losses this year was to this Oklahoma team, so as fate would have it, they’ll get a shot at redemption on the road in Norman in the first round. TSI projects Alabama as a half-point favorite here, with a total of 43. The first time these teams met, OU won 23-21, so I feel pretty confident in the TSI projections here. I’m not going to have an official play at this time. I’d lean Over, but the market seems to be dropping, so I’ll wait and see where the bottom of the market ends up being and look at the Over then.
