I intended to stay for 15 minutes, but three hours later I finally said my goodbyes at Steve Fezzik’s Sports Betting Boot Camp on Saturday at the Golden Nugget.

Steve brought in his many Las Vegas friends — some of my favorite VSiN regulars – such as Bill KrackombergerAnthony Curtis and “Las Vegas Cris” Zeniuk to share their wisdom. Gill Alexander talked to the seminar attendees on Friday.

I came away with a book recommended by Steve as his favorite on sports betting, 20/20 Sports Betting: Think Like A Pro by Logan Fields, published by Anthony’s Huntington Press.

Cris offered the group probably the best advice of the day: Get a colonoscopy. Fortunately, Cris is now cancer free and ready to win more Las Vegas football contests.

Makinen’s NASCAR Best Bets

Steve Makinen has done his final simulation for today’s race at Iowa Speedway and shared his analysis:

Ryan Blaney dominated this race a year ago, but it is Willliam Byron that grabs the top spot handily in this week’s final simulation run. His average finish is 3.2 on the simulation runs, making him one of the bigger favorites of recent races. He is followed by Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, and pole sitter Chase Briscoe, who has gotten very hot of late.

Iowa is a short track, which historically have been among the most predictable by statistical methods, thus the track gets a B+ handicap-ability grade.

Here are my predictions:

Top 5: Byrion, Larson, Blaney, Briscoe, Bell

Top underdogs to consider: Keselowski, Bowman, Reddick, Hocevar, Berry

Favorites to struggle: Logano, Beuscher, Chastain, Busch
