The two favorites to win Olympic gold in men’s hockey hit the ice today.
VSiN hockey analyst Jonathan Davis shares his Best Bets for the opening games featuring Canada (+115 at Circa) and the United States (+164).
Canada faces the Czech Republic (10:30 a.m. ET), and the spotlight immediately turns to the crease:
The Czech Republic may own the edge in goal, with Anaheim’s Lukas Dostal and Utah’s Karl Vejmelka both capable of stealing a game. Canada turns to Jordan Binnington, and head coach Jon Cooper is hoping for the version that shined in the Four Nations — not the one Blues fans have seen during a rocky regular season in St. Louis.
The United States opens against Latvia (3 p.m. ET):
As with Canada, goaltending is a mild question mark. Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg) was in the starter’s net at Monday’s practice and is expected to get the call for Game 1.
ICYMI: Davis also shared a few tournament futures he’s backing.
