A test of Willpower
My ears perked up Monday night when I heard VSiN PrimeTime host Will Hill say he has had success betting on the MLB All-Star Game (8 ET, Fox).
Unfortunately for Will, his annual strategy is betting the Under, so the current Total of 7 isn’t very appetizing. Against a Total of 7, the last 10 games would go 4-4 with 2 pushes.
He did add that he likes the NL and Kyle Stowers at 100-1 for All-Star MVP.
The baseball gods owe Will after Monday’s Home Run Derby. He texted me:
I had Rooker/Caminero 45-1 exact finals matchup and lost by a literal inch if you’d like to use my pain for the daily morning email.
As a matter of fact, I would. The eventual Home Run champion, +330 favorite Cal Raleigh, advanced out of the first round over Brent Rooker on a tiebreaker — longest home run in the round, based on Statcast:
- Raleigh: 470.6171452141 feet
- Rooker: 470.5351740593 feet
Raleigh went on to beat Junior Caminero in the final 18-15.
Greg Peterson has his Best Bets for the Midsummer Classic:
With the National League being at home with the game being in Atlanta and Truist Park being a pretty neutral ballpark in terms of neither aiding nor hurting offensive production in comparison to other ballparks in baseball, it should give the National League a slight edge in a game where both teams have enough firepower to score at least three runs each.
Josh Appelbaum will take a look at the betting splits and money movement for the game. Look here later today for his report.
Lady Luck must have rubbed off on Steve Makinen while he was visiting Las Vegas over the weekend. His Bullpen Betting systems had a good run heading into the All-Star Break.
Quick Hits
Golf: Wes Reynolds will post his British Open picks later today. Wes, Kelley Bydlon and Matt Brown will tape Long Shots, VSiN’s golf betting podcast, today. Look for it here.
Meantime, I will leave you with this nugget from Sirius XM host Greg DuCharme, who looked at nine common characteristics for the last five British Open winners. Only two golfers in this week’s field would qualify with the same traits: Keegan Bradley (+10000) and Robert MacIntyre (+4000).
NBA Summer League: Zach Cohen will have his top plays for today’s menu later this morning.
