Blue Jays in the cards?

It’s a Circa tradition like no other.

It’s Derek & Mike’s $75K All-Star Blackjack Invitational, which concludes with a draft of MLB futures based on the order of finish.

VSiN By The Books host Dave Ross won the VSiN play-in tournament — edging out Mitch MossPaul Howard and Matt Youmans in blackjack — and placed ninth out of the 12 players chosen for their loyalty to Circa’s gaming opportunities. (This is why you want to get a casino host. So you get invited to these kinds of free-rolls.)

If you watch Dave and co-host Jensen Lewis on our morning show, you know Dave is a bit of a Mets fan, to his betting detriment.

So before Wednesday’s draft, he made it clear to any and all that he was going to use his $3,000 voucher on New York’s second finest at +1150.

Alas, an earlier contestant saved him from the Mets and Dave ended up with the Blue Jays at +2200.

When reached for comment, Dave was still taking the last blackjack hand hard.

On the last hand, I went in for 4500. I got an 11 against a 10. Of course I had to double. I knew I couldn’t get in the top 3, but the top 5 was within reach. I got a 3, dealer had 20. Ironically, had I taken the Mets who I wanted at 11-1 and won that last hand, I would have had a 6K free play on them. Since I lost the hand, I got 22-1 with Toronto. So it’s the exact same denomination in the end.

We’ll find out if that last card was a blessing in disguise in the long run. Strongly considered Boston at 35-1, but chose Toronto with the belief they are going all in this year with older guys in the rotation and at the top of the lineup like Springer.

In case you are wondering, the No. 1 pick with a $15,000 voucher was spent on the Yankees at +900, followed by $12,000 on the Dodgers at +210 and $10,000 on the Astros at +1050. >>Video recap.

VSiN.com managing editor Adam Burke wasn’t in the tournament, but seems to like Dave’s pick, based on his piece on MLB futures and awards markets.

The AL East is very up for grabs. I do like the Blue Jays a lot, especially if they can get another starting pitcher and a reliever or two at the Deadline.

>Adam has two division futures and three win totals he likes.
