Wrigley blues

It was a beautiful night for baseball . . . 70 degrees, Wrigley Field packed.

Alas, the Cubs stumbled to a 12-4 loss to KC and dropped a half-game behind the Brewers in the NL Central.

Time to head back to Las Vegas.

Greg Peterson has five picks for today’s menu, including Royals-Cubs Game 2:

The Royals send 45-year-old Rich Hill to the mound for his first MLB start this season, after he made four relief appearances with the Boston Red Sox last season. In a starting role in 2023, he had a 5.42 ERA in his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres. Cubs starting pitcher Matthew Boyd has been a rock of consistency, posting a 2.34 ERA with only 0.8 home runs and 1.8 walks per nine innings allowed. The Royals rank last in the American League in scoring with 3.4 runs per game. The Cubs are second in MLB with nearly 5.3 runs per game, and the wind blowing out should help both offenses.

Pick: Cubs Run Line -1.5.

Steve Makinen, Adam Burke and Josh Appelbaum will file their daily contributions later this morning.
