Who were the winners and losers as baseball hit the trading deadline on Thursday?
With 35 deals on the final day, VSiN.com managing editor Adam Burke had a lot to sort through, but he made his list.
Adam counted the Athletics as winners:
The A’s had a great day. Many will say that the Padres did, given that they were extremely aggressive. And maybe for 2025, they are, after getting Mason Miller, JP Sears, Ryan O’Hearn, Ramon Laureano, Freddy Fermin, Nestor Cortes, and Will Wagner. All of those players fill voids and give them a better chance against the Dodgers.
But, the A’s got Leo De Vries in the Miller/Sears deal to go along with Henry Baez, Braden Nett, and Eduardniel Nunez. Nett and De Vries are the centerpieces of the deal, with De Vries rated as a top-five prospect in baseball by some outlets.
As for the losers, take note of the Twins:
The Twins traded away their five best relievers and turned over 40% of their roster. We’ll see how they get priced in the betting markets moving forward.
The fearless Greg Peterson makes the underdog Twins one of his five Best Bets for today.
Adam, Steve Makinen and Josh Appelbaum will file their daily contributions later this morning.
The Godfather rules
Congrats if you had the Chargers (+1.5) and Over (33.5) as LA routed the Lions 34-7 Thursday night in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton.
I may be biased, but Brent Musburger’s appearance in the NBC booth was the highlight of the game.
