New England Patriots at Tennesee Titans Under 38

While I recommend betting the under in this game, I don’t necessarily recommend actually watching this game. Two of the bottom three teams in the NFL in yards per play on offense meet up in what should be an ugly game. It appears as though Jacoby Brissett is on track to be at quarterback for the Patriots, with rookie Drake Maye recovering from a concussion suffered last week. Brissett is good for the Under. He’s not going to make explosive plays, as evidenced by his 132 yards on 24 attempts performance last week, but he’s likely going to take care of the ball as well. Both teams go into this game thinking they can have a chance to win if they can just avoid turnovers. I expect a risk-averse game and an ugly, low-scoring affair.

Week 9 NFL Best Bet: Patriots/Titans Under 38

Chicago Bears at Arizona Cardinals (-1)

The Cardinals are 4-3 and are pretty much neutral in terms of yards per play gained vs yards per play allowed. Those stats aren’t that impressive until you examine the schedule they’ve played so far. They played the Dolphins when they were healthy, as well as the Packers, Lions, 49ers, Bills, Chargers and Commanders. They have not played a below-average opponent yet. Also, they get a Bears team that heads west after a demoralizing loss on a Hail Mary last week in Washington, and I don’t trust this Bears coaching staff to bounce back from that, considering how poorly coached those final seconds were. I’m going with the underrated Cardinals.

Week 9 NFL Best Bet: Arizona Cardinals -1

Jonathon Gannon 22–1 Coach of the Year

Speaking of the Cardinals, the gauntlet of a schedule they have faced got me thinking. If they could endure these first seven games, what are they capable of? They’re in a division where the favored 49ers seem to lose an all-pro player every week due to injury, and the Cards have already won in San Francisco, which helps with potential tiebreak scenarios. At 4-3, the Cards are favored this week vs. the Bears, and next week vs. the Jets on the lookahead line. They also have games remaining vs the Panthers, Patriots, and two with the Seahawks. At +380 to win the NFC West, the Cardinals are live considering their schedule, and if they do win the division, Gannon has a great shot to win Coach of the Year.

Week 9 NFL Best Bet: Jonathan Gannon to Win Coach of the Year, 22-1

College Football Bonus Best Bet:

Michigan Team Total Under 14.5.

The defending national champs are just trying to scratch and claw their way to a bowl this season, as they are a shell of what they were last year when they went undefeated en route to winning it all. They draw an Oregon team who appears destined for the Big 10 Title game, as Michigan brings an offense that resembles more of a service academy than it does a national powerhouse. I’m not in the habit of laying over two scores, especially on the road. However, I don’t see how Michigan, with an offense averaging 130 yards passing per game, does much to generate any explosive plays to score 15+ points on this stout Oregon defense. I’m not sure if Oregon covers, but they should stifle a very limited Michigan offense.
