WNBA Best Bets from the T Shoe Index

The WNBA regular season comes to an end on Sunday and the playoffs tip off a week from tomorrow, so everything is winding down for some teams and just ramping up for others. Four games are on the schedule for tonight with five of the eight playoff berths already spoken for and a couple others likely to be secured this evening.

Three of the 12 teams have already been eliminated, including the Indiana Fever, but they are in action against the Chicago Sky and the Los Angeles Sparks, who are still fighting for a spot, take on the Connecticut Sun. The T Shoe Index shows a couple of good wagers for Tuesday night.

Connecticut Sun (-7.5) vs Los Angeles Sparks, O/U 156.5

This is a game featuring two playoff-caliber teams who have seen their scoring take a dip in recent games, as both teams have posted below average TSI offensive ratings over their last 5 games, both in the bottom 4 of the league; conversely, both teams are in the top 4 in defensive rating over that span. The T Shoe Index projects this game total at 150.5, well below the current O/U of 156.5.

Pick: Under 156.5 (Play to 155)

Indiana Fever vs Chicago Sky (-1.5), O/U 162.5

While I understand from a season-long data perspective why Chicago is favored here, recent performances from these teams indicate the Fever are playing better basketball right now. Offensively, Indiana is #2 in TSI over the last 5 games, while Chicago is in the bottom 4 of the league; defensively, Chicago has admittedly been better, though neither have been world beaters. TSI projects Indiana as a 2 point favorite here, and I don’t see a way Chicago musters enough offensively to keep up with the hot scoring of the Fever lately.

Pick: Indiana Fever +1.5 (Play to pick ‘em)
