WNBA Picks
I hope everyone enjoyed the first full college football Saturday of the season. I know I did. But, while we were watching Ohio State beat Texas and LSU win at Clemson, the WNBA regular season was continuing to wind down as teams gear up for a playoff run, while others (Washington) got eliminated from that race. Sunday, we’ve got just two games, with the aforementioned playoff-hopeless Mystics on a back-to-back at LA, and the Indiana Fever traveling to Golden State to take on the Valkyries, who are also on a back-to-back.
Here are today’s projections from the T Shoe Index:
LA Sparks (-8.5) vs. Washington Mystics, O/U 170.5
Washington really nosedived late in the season, losing its last five games in a row and getting eliminated from playoff contention, while covering just once in the previous five games. LA hasn’t been much better, especially at home, as they’ve failed to cover in five straight games and just three of their last ten. Washington actually won the previous matchup by nine, with LA winning the previous two by an average of 13 points with an average combined total of 179.5. TSI projects LA -3.5 with a total of 168.5 here, but it’s truly hard to gauge how much motivation Washington has tonight since they’re on a back-to-back with no hopes of making the playoffs. They might just mail this one in, which makes it tough to trust the numbers, so I’m going to have to pass here.
WNBA Pick: Pass
Golden State Valkyries vs. Indiana Fever (-2), O/U 159
Indiana has won two games in a row, covering in both, but is just 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10, while Golden State has also won and covered two straight and is 7-3 ATS in their last 10. The Valkyries won both previous matchups by an average of 15 points with an average combined total of 153. TSI projects Fever -0.5 with a total of 159.5, but the way these teams have been priced by the market recently says Golden State should really be about a one-point favorite. I’m going to back the purple here since it seems like Indiana has trouble with this team for one reason or another.
WNBA Pick: Golden State Valkyries +1 or better
