Go Bowling at The Glen
Despite what the name implies, there will not be any bowling at The Glen, but there will be racing. The NASCAR Cup Series heads to New York for some road course racing here in the Go Bowling at The Glen, the second of three road course races for this season. The next one will be at the end of June in Sonoma as the first race of the In-Season Challenge.
This is the 12th race of 36 for the Cup Series season. Next week will be a quasi week off for the Cup Series with just the All-Star Race pomp and circumstance at Dover before getting back to it with one of the signature races of the year, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte.

2026 NASCAR Cup Series Winners and Standings
We did not add another name to the list of winners last week, as Chase Elliott won for the second time this season. He led the most laps, won Stage 2, had the fastest lap, and came very close to sweeping the board at Texas in the Wurth 400. With Elliott’s win, we still only have five race winners this year through 11 events. Elliott is now a multiple winner alongside Tyler Reddick, while Ryan Blaney, Denny Hamlin, Ty Gibbs, and Carson Hocevar are the other victors.
While Reddick didn’t win last week, he finished fourth, keeping a firm grasp on first place over Hamlin, who was second. Reddick has 526 points and Hamlin is second with 417, so it is a big lead to say the least. Elliott’s win propelled him to third place with 409 points, so he’s chasing Hamlin down little by little. Meanwhile, there is a big gap to Blaney in fourth with 371 points and then to winless Chris Buescher in fifth with 345.
The top 10 includes Hocevar and Gibbs, plus perennial contender Kyle Larson, who hasn’t won yet, only has three top-five finishes, and has finished 40th and 34th in the last two races.
The postseason format has changed and so has the qualification, as winning a race isn’t guaranteed to result in a playoff spot. The top 16 in points get in and there are no rounds in the postseason now, so it’s just a sprint to see who can accumulate the most points.
Go Bowling at The Glen Winners
The drivers have to contend with the 2.54-mile twists and turns of Watkins Glen International this week and there are absolutely some drivers that are much better road course racers than others. One of them, Shane van Gisbergen, is the reigning champ here. Buescher won two years ago, as he’s been a solid road course driver over the years. Larson won back-to-back in 2021-22 and Elliott back-to-back in 2018-19. The 2020 race was moved due to COVID.
Over the last 10 Watkins Glen starts, van Gisbergen has the top average finish, though that means only two races, where he’s finished first and second. Bell only has five starts here, but he’s been in the top 10 four times. He hasn’t won yet, though. Hamlin has five top-five finishes, while Elliott is second with four.
