College Basketball Best Bets Today:

Hopefully March Madness has more drama in store for us as we go forward, but it is a little bit sad to see the number of games dwindling like it is. I’m used to seeing 100+ games on Saturday cards, but we only had 10 today and that doesn’t leave a whole lot of options on the betting board. Also, with the late start and the time difference that plague the article when there are early games, the card is cut down even more.

But, I didn’t want to leave readers empty-handed and there is one bet that I like for later this evening.

BYU Cougars vs. Wisconsin Badgers (-1.5, 155.5)

7:45 p.m. ET

It has been a great NCAA Tournament for the Big Ten thus far and Purdue continued that trend here this morning. The conference went 8-0 SU and ATS in the first round. It has been a very impressive run to say the least.

But, I am going to fade the Big Ten here and back BYU in a game that looks like it is going to be a jump shot contest. Neither one of these teams get to the rim all that much and both of them are in the top 10 in shot share against on Close Twos. In fact, BYU is actually tops in the nation at preventing teams from getting layups, dunks, and tip-ins. So, this one will feature a lot of outside shooting.

And BYU has been better at that throughout the course of the season. Per Torvik, they have a higher FG% on Farther Twos at 45.8% compared to Wisconsin’s 42.6%. The Cougars are also the better 3-point shooting team, as both sides have pretty equal 3P Rates at 48% (BYU) and 47.9% (Wisconsin). BYU is shooting 37% from 3 and Wisconsin is shooting 34.8%. The Badgers are the better defense in both of those areas, but they have one of the lowest turnover rates in the field and I think BYU will knock down more than enough shots to pull the mini upset here and advance to the Sweet 16.

Pick: BYU +1.5
