Some familiarity surrounds this bowl game as Georgia Southern’s Quarterback Kyle Vantrease is facing his former team. And with Buffalo, back in the 2020 season, Vantrease actually won the Camellia Bowl. But now Vantrease is on the opposing sideline, and this season with the Eagles, he has passed for over 3,900 yards and racked up 25 passing touchdowns. The issue for Vantrease and the offense has been turnovers. Vantrease has thrown 15 interceptions this season, and Georgia Southern is 2-3 when giving away the pigskin more than once in a game. However, the Bulls’ defense isn’t necessarily lethal. Buffalo has a defense that allows about 390 total yards of offense and over 27 points per contest. The Bulls are also winless when surrendering over 283 passing yards. Vantrease eclipsed 283 passing yards in eight of 12 games.
As for Buffalo’s offense, they have a solid opportunity to score against this Eagles’ defense that allows almost 500 total yards and over 32 points per contest. And the Bulls better hope they can take advantage of it and get to that mark, considering they have only won twice when they’ve stayed under 32 points. The betting market consensus has made Clay Helton and his Eagles unit a 3.5-point favorite. As you can imagine, the total has received plenty of attention to the over, soaring this number from 63.5 to 67.5 —Danny Burke
