Oklahoma Sooners at Georgia Bulldogs – 3:30 pm ET

Since Kirby Smart became the head coach at Georgia, the Bulldogs are 3-14 against the spread in home games off covers as double-digit favorites. They’re also just 4-6 ATS when facing teams with turnover margins of -1 per game or worse. Meanwhile, with Brent Venables on the sidelines, Oklahoma is 6-3 both straight-up and ATS when coming off a game with a turnover margin of -2 or worse. The Sooners are also 3-1 ATS as underdogs of 10.5 to 21 points in that span.

Of course, Oklahoma’s loss to Michigan was really ugly. However, the Sooners are No. 5 in the nation in Net EPA/play allowed (-0.23) this season. They’re also No. 2 in the nation in Defense Success against the run (28.7%) and No. 16 against the pass (34.9%). The rushing defense is what I like here. Not only should they be able to do a decent job of containing Nate Frazier, but they should also have a good plan in place for Gunner Stockton. Also, Stockton might be one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football, but he leaves a little to be desired as an actual thrower. So, even though Oklahoma’s rushing defense is better than the team’s passing defense, the Sooners secondary should be good enough to keep the Bulldogs passing game in check.

Oklahoma just needs to hope that John Mateer shows up in this one. Mateer really struggled against Michigan, then he threw two picks in a 14-6 win over New Mexico. He hasn’t been performing like a Heisman candidate, which is what he entered this season as. But we should see Mateer snap out of it soon, and this could be a much closer game than the odds suggest if he just avoids turning the rock over.

The Bulldogs are clearly one of the top teams in college football, and they have lived up to expectations through three weeks. But let’s not forget that Oklahoma was supposed to be an elite team this year. Perhaps it’s just taking them a little longer to find their groove. That said, I’m taking +14.5 as a bit of a bigger play, but I’m not stopping there. I’m going to take an alternate spread of +8.5 at +149 in case this turns into a one-possession game.

Bet: Oklahoma +14.5 (-120 – 1.5 units) & Oklahoma Alt +8.5 (+149 – 0.5 units)

Oregon Ducks at USC Trojans – 7:30 pm ET

Oregon isn’t off to the kind of start that Dan Lanning was hoping for. The team really struggled in a win over Boise State, then lost as a 23.5-point favorite against Oklahoma State. The team did win 84-0 last week, but that was against Portland State. We’re still waiting to see Oregon show us why we viewed them as a title contender, and it’s possible it won’t happen. However, I do believe in this offense. Even while disappointing in the first two weeks of the year, the Ducks averaged 32.5 points per game. Now, Dante Moore and Co. get to face a Trojans defense that allowed 26 against San Jose State, 30 against Louisiana, and 35 against Rutgers.

We really should see Oregon flirt with a big number here, and USC should do the same. While the Trojans defense has looked beatable this year, the offense has been stellar. USC is averaging 43.0 points per game and currently ranks No. 5 in the country in Adjusted Net EPA/play (0.43).

The Over is also 16-13 in Oregon games under Lanning in which the team has faced an opponent that averages 5.9 or more yards per play. Meanwhile, under Lincoln Riley, the Over is 9-3 when USC has played at home in games with totals between 56.5 and 63 points.

Bet: Over 61.5 (-115)

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Stanford Cardinal – 10:30 pm ET

This game isn’t as exciting as the other two, but I’m not sure the right team is favored here. These are two teams that haven’t looked great to start the year, but Stanford has at least won a competitive football game. That was one in which the team edged out Hawaii as a 4.5-point favorite. The only game in the win column for Georgia Tech was a non-cover against FCS Mercer.

Georgia Tech probably has a few more dynamic players than Stanford, but the matchup I like for the Cardinal is their rock-solid running game going up against a weak Yellow Jackets defensive line. As long as Stanford is doing a good job on early downs, this is a game that can easily tilt toward the home team.

I just really think Georgia Tech is missing both Haynes King and Buster Faulkner, and setting Alberto Mendoza up in third-and-long situations could quickly end the Yellow Jackets season. There’s a good chance we’ll see a bunch of those, as his line is completely banged up.

Bet: Stanford +3.5 (-110) & Stanford ML (+150 – 0.5 units)
