Week 10 College Football Predictions

Week 9 did not disappoint from an entertainment perspective in this bonkers sport we call college football. Alabama scraped by at South Carolina, Michigan State sneaked in the back door against rival Michigan, Missouri’s Beau Pribula is unfortunately done for the year with a gruesome leg injury, preseason #1 Texas escaped Mississippi State in overtime and Diego Pavia might win the Heisman. How are those for some headlines? From a betting perspective, Week 9 was not great. We did get home with Northwestern +7.5, but Purdue lost on a walk-off field goal and Illinois got destroyed by Washington. We’re back on the horse for Week 10 with early week bets from the T Shoe Index:

Marshall (-4) vs Coastal Carolina, O/U 54.5

These two teams have gone in polar opposite directions from TSI preseason expectations of them. Marshall, after losing several starters and head coach Charles Huff, has found its rhythm and has been putting up some serious points offensively recently; meanwhile, Coastal Carolina, once known for its offensive prowess, has been utterly disappointing. TSI projects Marshall -8.5, but looking at how these teams are trending over the last three games, I’d make Marshall more like a 13.5 point favorite on the road. I think they are going to put up a pretty big number on this defense that has given up 7.5 points more per game than their opponents score on everybody else.

College Football Pick: Marshall -4

Duke (+3.5) vs Clemson, O/U 55.5

Speaking of teams going in opposite directions, Duke travels to Death Valley Saturday to take on Dabo Swinney’s team after a bye week. Clemson has not looked anywhere near the championship-level team many expected to see this season, starting out just 3-4 this season. Duke is 4-3 and has covered three of the last four. Clemson is 0-4 ATS at home this season and Duke is 2-1 ATS on the road. TSI projects Duke -1.5, and the last 3 games’ trend would inch that up to Duke -2.5. Cade Klubnik missed Clemson’s last game with an injury, and I have not seen him confirmed for this week. Either way, Duke will have the best QB in the game in Darian Mensah.

College Football Pick: Duke +3.5
