Oaklawn Park Picks for Saturday, February 7:
HORSING AROUND AT OAKLAWN PARK: It was bombs away, including a $143 winner Friday at Oaklawn Park, as longshots ruled the day. HOF trainer Mark Casse had four winners, while jockeys Javier Castellano, Flavien Prat and Abel Cedillo all had a pair of winners, Mr. Ed also had a pair of scores. First post Saturday is 1 p.m. PT/10 a.m PT. Here’s a look at Mr. Ed’s exclusive Oaklawn Park picks.
Mr. Ed’s Selections at Oaklawn Park for Saturday (2/07)
Race 1 (1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT) — $48K Claiming for 4YOs & Up going 6 furlongs
Mr. Ed kicks wagering off with a DD. He likes a pair in Leg 1: #6 WACO (8-1 morning line), for hot-shot West Coast trainer Peter Miller with Ramon Vasquez in irons; and #9 CREW DRAGON (3-1) for overdue McLean Robertson barn, which retains Serafin Carmona to ride.
OAKLAWN PARK SELECTION: $5 Daily Double of 6,9/8,9. ($20)
Race 2 (1:31 p.m. ET/10:31 a.m. PT) — $30K CLAIMING for 4YOs & Up going a mile
To complete the DD, Mr. Ed likes two: longshot #8 RED MOUNTAIN (12-1 morning line) for trainer Ingrid Mason with jockey Santo Sanjur, and #9 WINTER’S GHOST (5-2) for journeyman trainer Wayne Potts with Francisco Arrieta riding.
Race 3 (2:01 p.m. ET/11:01 a.m. PT) — $60K STARTER ALLOWANCE for 3YOs going 1 1/16-mile
For the third consecutive contest, Mr. Ed likes #9, HORSE OF THE SEA (7-2 morning line), for popular trainer Brad Cox with Jaime Torres in the saddle. Gelding gets Lasix following a sharp effort six weeks ago and a pair of solid works since then. He’s no chicken.
OAKLAWN PARK SELECTION: $10 to Win & Place. ($20)
Race 4 (2:32 p.m. ET/11:32 a.m. PT) — $126K ALLOWANCE CLAIMING for 4YOs & Up going 1 1/16-mile
Mr. Ed likes another #9, SIR GREYLIND (3-1 morning line), for popular horseman Kenny McPeek and jockey Emmanuel Esquivel. Horse for the course drops in class after an excellent graded-stakes effort.
OAKLAWN PARK SELECTION: $10 to Win. ($10)
Race 5 (3:03 p.m. ET/12:03 p.m. PT) — $125K ALLOWANCE for fillies and mares going 1 1/16-mile
I like the lightly raced #2 OVERCOME ADVERSITY (3-1 morning line) for overdue trainer Matt Shirer, who gives the filly a huge rider upgrade to Luis Saez. If Mr. Ed can bounce back at the track, this gal can, too.
OAKLAWN PARK SELECTION: $20 to Win. ($20)
Race 6 (3:34 p.m. ET/12:34 p.m. PT) — $31K CLAIMING for fillies and mares, 3YOs & Up going 6 furlongs
Mr. Ed is betting on three: #1 SEVERE CLEAR (7-2 morning line) for veteran trainer Peter Miller; #5 RAGTIME SIZZLE for low-profile trainer Bruce Riecken, and #12 WHAT’S HER NUMBER (3-1) with Luis Saez returning to ride. Any two will do.
OAKLAWN PARK SELECTION: $5 Exacta Box. ($30)
Race 8 (4:38 p.m. ET/1:38 p.m. PT) — $36K CLAIMING for 4YOs & Up going 1 1/16-mile
Mr. Ed plays a DD with favorite #3 DETERMINEDLY (5-2 morning line) for HOF trainer Mark Casse with Cristian Torres returning to saddle; and #7 YELLOW BRICK (3-1) for veteran trainer Matt Shirer. A road worth following.
OAKLAWN PARK SELECTION: $5 Daily Double of 3,7/4,7. ($20)
Race 9 (5:13 p.m. ET/2:13 p.m. PT) — $250K G3 BAYAKOA STAKES for fillies & mares, 4YOs & Up going 1 1/16-mile
To close out the card and the DD, Mr. Ed likes #4 QUIETSIDE (3-1 morning line) for the excellent team of trainer John Ortiz and jockey Ricardo Santana, Jr., and $2 million-earner #7 NITROGEN (4-5) for Mark Casse and Jose Ortiz.
TOTAL WAGERS: $120

Aqueduct Race Track in New York has cancelled racing this Saturday and Sunday due to expected arctic temperatures with high winds over the weekend.
