Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays Prediction:

The Boston Red Sox begin their season’s final road series when they face the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

The Toronto Blue Jays skipped Chris Bassitt’s normal start on the mound on Sunday. They will see if it helps on Monday. Bassitt owns a 4.16 ERA. Since July 1, he has allowed at least three runs in nine of his 13 starts with a 5.45 ERA and 3.4 walks per nine innings.

Top MLB Resources:

Bassitt’s struggles have mainly been at home this season. He has a 4.58 ERA at home compared to a 3.58 ERA on the road. He is backed up by a bullpen who’s 4.74 ERA is 28th in the league.

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Tanner Houck has also had second-half struggles. He has allowed at least three runs in six of his 10 starts since the All-Star Break, posting a 4.61 ERA with nearly 3.4 walks and 1.3 hit by pitches per nine innings, after giving out two walks and 0.6 hit by pitches before the All-Star Break.

The Boston Red Sox support Houck with a bullpen that has been the worst in baseball since July 1. They’ve posted a 5.78 EEA in this span with no other team having worse than a 5.24 ERA.

While Boston’s pitching has struggled, the team has been second in the American League in runs per game since the All-Star Break with over 4.7 runs per game and is averaging 4.8 runs per game on the road overall this season.

With both starting pitchers and bullpens struggling and the Boston Red Sox bullpen coming off extra use on Sunday with a doubleheader, Monday’s matchup is set up for a lot of runs.
