Cleveland Guardians vs. Milwaukee Brewers Prediction:

The two leaders in the central divisions, the Cleveland Guardians and Milwaukee Brewers, wrap up their series in Milwaukee on Sunday with their surprises in each respective rotation facing each other on the mound.

Colin Rea gets the pitching start for the Brewers. He is making his first start since surrendering seven runs in his previous start to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Top MLB Resources:

Rea had allowed a combined four runs in his previous four starts, but there is reason to believe his form in those four starts was fool’s gold and that regression is coming.

Overall, Rea has a 3.72 ERA this season but a 4.55 fielding independent with 1.4 home runs per nine innings while getting only 7.2 strikeouts per nine innings.

Rea is backed up by a bullpen that ranks second with a 3.27 ERA, while Cleveland has the number one bullpen with a 2.69 ERA.

There’s reason to think the Guardians bullpen might get overworked on Sunday with Ben Lively making the start. Lively has a similar profile to Rea with a 3.71 ERA but a 5.02 fielding independent with 7.3 strikeouts and 1.7 home runs per nine innings.

Both teams have more than enough offense to make Sunday’s starting pitchers pay. The Brewers are eighth in the league with over 4.8 runs per game, while the Guardians’ 4.6 runs per game is 12th among MLB teams.

Despite the great bullpens on both sides, both starting pitchers are lucky to have the low ERAs they do. These two offenses will turn Sunday’s game into a slugfest.
