Detroit Tigers vs. San Diego Padres Prediction:
The San Diego Padres are in pole position for a National League Wild Card spot. They have work to do to catch the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West division race. They’ll look to chip away at their lead when the Detroit Tigers visit San Diego on Wednesday.
Keider Montero gets the start for Detroit. Montero has a 5.17 ERA with 1.7 home runs and 3.1 walks allowed per nine innings, with at least four runs allowed in five of his past nine starts.
Top MLB Resources:
Montero faces a Padres lineup that has the highest batting average against right-handed pitching in the league at .274. Since the All-Star Break, the Padres have averaged 5.3 runs per game, the second-most among National League teams.
Yu Darvish starts for the Padres. Darvish will be making his first MLB start since May 28. In his lone minor league rehab appearance, he allowed six runs in 3 1/2 innings.
While the Tigers are 22nd in overall run production, they have averaged more runs per game on the road, with just 4.1 runs per game at home compared to 4.3 runs per game on the road.
Both teams enter this series with comparable bullpen performances. The Tigers are 11th with a 3.80 bullpen ERA, and the Padres are 13th with a 3.84 ERA.
With Darvish making his first start in months and the Padres lineup receiving a favorable matchup, there should be plenty of runs in San Diego on Wednesday.
