Best Bets on Today’s MLB Player Props Market
We’re in the final stretch of the 2023 MLB season and VSiN continues to have you covered with every way you can possibly bet on a baseball game. As always, Adam Burke will have daily best bets to give you some ideas of what to back when it comes to moneylines, run lines and totals. However, I’m tackling player props here, and I’m targeting Luis Severino, Jameson Taillon and Ronald Acuna Jr. on Monday, August 28th. Keep reading to find out how I’m betting on all of them.

Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Monday, August 28th:
New York Yankees at Detroit Tigers (-118, 8.5)
Luis Severino is coming off his best start of the season, as he pitched 6.2 shutout innings against the Washington Nationals on August 23rd. However, Severino had given up at least three earned runs in five consecutive starts before that one. So, I don’t exactly trust that the 29-year-old’s struggles are behind him. Severino has also been at his worst on the road this season, as he is 0-6 with a 9.56 ERA when pitching outside of Yankee Stadium. With that said, I still think it’s a good idea to play the Over on his earned runs total until he proves he can handle a different environment. Also, while Detroit is near the bottom of the league in wRC+ against righties this season, the team is up at 18th in the league against them since the start of July.
Bet: Severino Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-125)
Milwaukee Brewers at Chicago Cubs (-122, 9)
Jameson Taillon has had at least five strikeouts in three of his last five starts, and he has also done it in 11 of his 23 outings this season. So, this isn’t exactly a mark that is unreachable for the righty, who has had some flashes in which he has looked excellent this season. Tonight, Taillon will get a crack at the Brewers, who can occasionally struggle to make contact. Milwaukee had one of the highest strikeout rates in the league earlier in the year, but the team now has the 12th-highest strikeout rate in baseball. So, things have gotten better for the Brewers. But overall, this is still a very manageable opponent for Taillon, and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t hit five strikeouts here.
Bet: Taillon Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-115)
Atlanta Braves (-245, 12) at Colorado Rockies
The Braves are huge favorites in tonight’s meeting with the Rockies, and this is a game with a total of 12. With that in mind, I find it hard to believe that Ronald Acuna Jr. won’t come through with an RBI. And you can get him at plus-money odds to do so. Acuna has been slumping a bit coming into this game, but there’s no better medicine than getting to face a lefty at Coors Field. Acuna is batting .316 with five doubles, five homers and 17 RBIs in limited at-bats against southpaws this season, but he’ll have a great chance of improving those numbers against Austin Gomber. Gomber has been horrible when pitching in Colorado this season.
Bet: Acuna Over 0.5 RBIs (+110)
