Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Wednesday, June 28th:
Washington Nationals at Seattle Mariners (-250, 8.5)
Patrick Corbin is one of the worst pitchers in baseball, which has been the case for each of the past three seasons. It has been something of a wild turn for a starter that was once a legitimate ace in this league. But Corbin is now a guy that bettors line up to fade when he’s on the mound. Despite that, I’m backing Corbin to go Over his strikeout total today.
Corbin would just need five strikeouts in order to cash this bet, which is a mark he has reached four times this season. Today, Corbin also happens to face a very favorable opponent, as he’s getting a crack at the Mariners. Seattle has the fourth-highest strikeout rate in the league against left-handed pitching this year, so I don’t think it’s crazy to think Corbin can miss some bats — even if he struggles overall.
Bet: Corbin Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-104)
San Diego Padres (-165, 8) at Pittsburgh Pirates
Mitch Keller is 8-3 with a 3.45 ERA and 113 strikeouts for the Pirates this season. The righty has been electric for Pittsburgh all year, and his swing-and-miss stuff has been better than expected. This season, Keller has had at least seven strikeouts in 12 of his 16 starts. That makes it an easy decision to back him to have at least six against the Padres here.
The Padres have the 11th-highest strikeout rate in the league against righties this season, and they strike out a bit more often on the road than they do at home. That only adds to this matchup being a tough one for San Diego, as Keller is 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA in Pittsburgh this season.
Overall, I just don’t see much preventing Keller from going out and having another big game in the strikeout column. His advanced stats suggest he’s going to go cold when it comes to strikeouts soon, but I need to see it to believe it.
Bet: Keller Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-129)
Tampa Bay Rays (-155, 9.5) at Arizona Diamondbacks
Ketel Marte is having one of the best seasons of his career, as he’s batting .295 with 15 homers and 43 RBIs for a scorching hot Diamondbacks team. Last night, Marte also happened to hit a home run for the third game in a row. He has now homered in five of his last seven games, and I like him to come through at the plate tonight. That’s why I’m backing him to reach two total bases at plus-money odds.
Would it be great if Marte hit another homer? Sure. But I’ll settle for multiple hits or a single extra base hit in this tough matchup with Zach Eflin, who is 9-3 with a 3.35 ERA for Tampa Bay this season. Arizona will be counting on somebody in its lineup to come through against the righty, and I don’t see why it can’t be Marte. After all, Marte is 2 for 5 with a double off Eflin in his career. And the switch hitter has been one of Arizona’s most reliable bat against righties all season.
Bet: Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (+125)
