MLB Player Props for Thursday, June 6

The 2024 MLB season is in full swing and we continue to come at it from a bunch of different directions. This season, VSiN Managing Editor Adam Burke will have you covered when it comes to MLB sides and totals in his daily best bets column. You’ll also get some First Five Inning analysis from Jonathan Von Tobel. On top of that, our analytics guru Steve Makinen will feed you some interesting trends and systems on a daily basis. But I’ll be focusing specifically on MLB player props this season, dishing out at least three per day every Monday to Friday. With that in mind, let’s get into the plays for Thursday, June 6th.

Seattle Mariners at Oakland Athletics – 3:37 pm ET

I usually take starting pitchers to go Over the strikeout total against the Mariners, but I’m rolling with a Seattle starter to go Over his strikeout total tonight. While the Mariners have the highest strikeout rate (28.0%) in the league against right-handed pitching this season, the Athletics aren’t too far behind. They have a strikeout rate of 26.4% this season, making it hard not to like Bryan Woo to do some damage in the K column. Woo’s swing-and-miss stuff hasn’t quite been there this year, and his stint on the 15-day IL to start the season probably had something to do with that. But overall, it’s not like Woo is pitching poorly. In fact, he’s 2-0 with a 1.30 ERA on the year. And you’d have to think that he’s due for some positive regression when it comes to strikeout rate this year. He had a 25.1% strikeout rate in 2023 and that number is down at 18.4% this year. Well, this is the type of matchup that can quickly change things.

Pick: Woo Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-136 – 1.5 units)

Los Angeles Dodgers at Pittsburgh Pirates – 6:40 pm ET

Walker Buehler might not look like an ace anymore, but he has pitched pretty well in each of his last three starts. The righty has allowed just six earned runs in his last 17.2 innings on the mound, and he has struck out at least seven batters in two of his last three starts. Well, Buehler now gets a very good matchup on Thursday, so I like the righty to find some success in the strikeout column. This season, Pittsburgh has the fifth-highest strikeout rate in the league against righties, so Buehler should be able to go out and miss some bats here. And I’m playing him to reach the six-strikeout mark at plus-money odds. If you’d rather drink some juice and play Over 4.5, that’s an option. But I think Buehler will get himself to six against a very manageable lineup.

Pick: Buehler Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+120)

Boston Red Sox at Chicago White Sox – 8:10 pm ET

I like this game to go Over the total of 8.5, so this is where I wanted to go with my batter prop for today. And I’m keeping things simple and playing Jarren Duran to have Over 2.5 hits, runs and RBIs. The lefty slugger is just extremely dangerous against right-handed pitching, as he’s batting .280 with nine triples, 15 doubles, four homers and 21 RBIs against righties this season. Tonight, Duran faces a pretty mediocre one in Jake Woodford. Woodford has only started one game this season, so this year’s stats really don’t mean much. But Woodford was 2-3 with a 6.23 ERA in 15 appearances in 2023, and lefty hitters had a lot of success against him. So, this feels like a good matchup for Duran, which is why I’m comfortable going Over a higher number than usual.

Pick: Duran Over 2.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-105)
