MLB Player Props for Wednesday, May 29
The 2024 MLB season is in full swing and we continue to come at it from a bunch of different directions. This season, VSiN Managing Editor Adam Burke will have you covered when it comes to MLB sides and totals in his daily best bets column. You’ll also get some First Five Inning analysis from Jonathan Von Tobel. On top of that, our analytics guru Steve Makinen will feed you some interesting trends and systems on a daily basis. But I’ll be focusing specifically on MLB player props this season, dishing out at least three per day every Monday to Friday. With that in mind, let’s get into the plays for Wednesday, May 29th.

Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers – 7:40 pm ET
Shota Imanaga is off to an absurd start to the 2024 season, as the 30-year-old “rookie” is 5-0 with a 0.84 ERA. Imanaga has also struck out 58 batters in 53.2 innings pitched and he has an impressive 27.8% strikeout rate this year. With that in mind, the lefty can generally be trusted to reach the seven-strikeout mark, which he has done in five consecutive starts. And I’m playing Imanaga to hit that number again, as he’s facing a Brewers team that has the seventh-highest strikeout rate (24.2%) in the league against lefties this year. Look for Imanaga to continue to do damage with his four-seamer and splitter here. The latter should be the pitch that ultimately decides whether or not this play gets home. I don’t think the Brewers will be able to hit it.
Pick: Imanaga Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-120)
Cleveland Guardians at Colorado Rockies – 8:40 pm ET
I have been going with Jose Ramirez as my hitter of choice when attacking this series, but I’m switching it up today. While Ramirez went Over 2.5 hits, runs and RBIs in two straight days for me, I’m not willing to deal with the juice on tonight’s number. So, I’m turning to David Fry to do some damage instead. This season, Fry is batting .357 with five doubles, seven homers and 23 RBIs. And Fry has put up stupid numbers against left-handed pitching, batting .425 with four doubles, four homers and 11 RBIs against southpaws. That said, Fry should enjoy a matchup against lefty Ty Blach, who is 1-2 with a 4.55 ERA this year — especially at Coors Field. Fry went 3 for 5 with a homer and three RBIs last night. And I don’t see anything preventing him from staying hot tonight.
Pick: Fry Over 2.5 Hits, Runs and RBIs (+105)
Houston Astros at Seattle Mariners – 9:40 pm ET
Justin Verlander is coming off a nine-strikeout performance against the Oakland Athletics. The righty has now had at least eight strikeouts in two of his last three starts, and I’m only looking for the 41-year-old to get seven tonight. It’s just hard to pass on plus-money odds for Verlander to rack up strikeouts against the Mariners. Seattle has the highest strikeout rate in the league against righties this season, and this is a group I’ve been targeting all year. The Mariners just have no plate discipline and a pitcher like Verlander will take advantage of that. Last year, Verlander had eight strikeouts in his only start against the Mariners. I can see him hitting that number again here.
Pick: Verlander Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+110)
