Game 3 Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees Prediction:

The New York Yankees are looking to avoid a dreaded 0-3 hole in the World Series as they get their first home game in the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday.

Clarke Schmidt gets the start at pitcher for the New York Yankees, who between 18 starts in the regular season and playoffs had a 2.95 ERA with less than 0.9 home runs per nine innings allowed, but hasn’t been the same pitcher in Yankees Stadium as opposed to on the road.

Top MLB Resources:

In Schmidt’s eight home starts this season, he has allowed 1.3 home runs per nine innings with a 4.50 ERA and is tasked with holding down a Dodgers offense that leads all teams that made the playoffs in scoring.

Overall, between the regular season and postseason, the Dodgers are averaging just under 5.3 runs per game, with barely over 4.9 runs per game at home compared to 5.6 runs per game on the road, while the Yankees are second among team that made the postseason in run production with nearly five runs per game.

The Dodgers send Walker Buehler to the mound for the start, who is coming off of four scoreless, but between the regular season and postseason has a 5.44 ERA, with his ERA ballooning to 6.40 on the road with over 2.5 home runs per nine innings allowed on the road.

Both bullpens have been steady during the postseason, with the Yankees bullpen posting a 2.87 ERA during the playoffs after having a 3.62 ERA in the regular season, while the Dodgers 3.53 ERA from their bullpen during the regular season has gone down to a 3.08 ERA in the playoffs.

There is a question as to what Shohei Ohtani will be able to provide in this game, after an injury scare on a stolen base in Game 2 that put into question how close to 100 percent he will be, but the Dodgers have 24 home runs in 13 playoff games, with Ohtani accounting for just three of them.

Though both bullpens have been solid this postseason, and with the Dodgers lineup perhaps not at 100 percent with Ohtani’s injured shoulder, the struggles of both starting pitchers and the top to bottom firepower of both lineups will lead to a high scoring Game 3.
