Best Bets on Today’s 15-Game MLB Schedule

The 2023 MLB season is fully in swing and VSiN has you covered with every way you can possibly bet on a baseball game. Normally, Adam Burke will have daily best bets to give you some ideas of what to back when it comes to moneylines, run lines and totals, while I focus on feeding you all player props. However, Adam needed to take care of something today, so I’m tackling everything before we get back to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow. Keep reading to find out how I’m betting four of the games on the MLB schedule for Wednesday, August 2.

Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Wednesday, August 2:

Detroit Tigers (-125, 8.5) at Pittsburgh Pirates

Eduardo Rodriguez has been stellar for the Tigers this year, as the lefty is 6-5 with a 2.95 ERA this season. I do, however, think the Pirates can get to him a bit in this game. Pittsburgh has scored 17 runs over its last three games and has looked rather good offensively. If the Pirates can get him for three or so runs in his innings, that should be more than enough considering the Tigers don’t have a reliable bullpen. Meanwhile, Osvaldo Bido will be on the mound for Pittsburgh here. The righty hasn’t been awful for the Pirates, but he doesn’t really work deep in games and the Pittsburgh bullpen is similarly lousy. That said, I see both of these offenses getting it going in the later innings to help this Over cash — if it doesn’t happen earlier.

Bet: Over 8.5 (-110)

Milwaukee Brewers (-142, 9) at Washington Nationals

MacKenzie Gore had only two strikeouts in his most recent trip to the hill, but he had at least six strikeouts in back-to-back starts before that. The lefty has now had at least six strikeouts in 13 of his 21 outings this year, and I think he’ll reach that mark against the Brewers today. Milwaukee is one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to wRC+ against lefties this season, and the Brewers also have the second-highest strikeout rate in the league against southpaws. It’s just hard to envision this lineup avoiding strikeouts against Gore, who can be very impressive when he’s dialed in with his control.

Bet: Gore Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-120)

San Diego Padres (-245, 12) at Colorado Rockies

Ha-Seong Kim has already had some career success against Rockies starter Kyle Freeland, as he is 5 for 16 with four doubles against the lefty. Kim is also batting .311 with six homers, 10 doubles and 21 RBIs against left-handed pitching this year, and he has always been a guy that has been tremendous against southpaws. With that in mind, I love Kim to go Over 1.5 total bases in today’s meeting with Colorado. It doesn’t hurt that this game will be played at hitter-friendly Coors Field either. And for what it’s worth, Kim is coming off a two-hit game in last night’s contest. He is now on an eight-game hitting streak, so he’s seeing the ball very well.

Bet: Kim Over 1.5 Total Bases (-125)

Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners (-125, 8)

It’s hard not to love the Red Sox as an underdog in today’s meeting with the Mariners. Logan Gilbert will be starting this one for Seattle, and the righty has had some issues lately. The win column might not exactly support that, but Gilbert has given up at least seven hits in each of his last three starts. Now, the righty will go to work against a Red Sox team that is 10th in the league in wRC+. With that in mind, Boston will be looking forward to getting out there and facing Gilbert. Meanwhile, Kutter Crawford will feel good about this matchup with the Mariners. Seattle is a team that can go very cold at the plate, and Crawford should be able to take advantage of that.

Bet: Red Sox ML (+105)

New York Mets (-162, 9) at Kansas City Royals

The vibe in the Mets locker room has to be a little off, right? New York was a popular pick to win the World Series before the season, but the team ended up shifting into a rebuild with Tuesday’s deadline. The Mets traded all of their top starting pitchers, and that has to be on the minds of some of the players in this lineup today. New York is also sending Kodai Senga to the mound in this one, and the righty has been a lot worse on the road than he has been at home this season. And he happens to be facing a Kansas City lineup that is clicking right now. The Royals have scored at least seven runs in three of their last four games, and I just like their chances of staying hot and guaranteeing themselves a win in this three-game series with the Mets. It doesn’t hurt that New York is just 11-25 on the moneyline against left-handed starters this season.

Bet: Royals ML (+136)
