Cardinals vs. Red Sox Moneyline Analysis
The Cardinals will be going for a three-game sweep of the Red Sox when the two meet for Sunday Night Baseball. This is a game in which it’s going to be pretty hard to trust either team to win outright, and that boils down to both clubs starting some inconsistent pitchers.
For St. Louis, it’ll be Miles Mikolas starting. Mikolas is 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA on the season, and he is just giving the Cardinals a mixed bag of results this year. Meanwhile, Kluber is 2-4 with a 6.29 ERA for Boston this year. But the righty has given up just three or fewer earned runs in each of his last three starts.
If we had to lean in one direction as far as sides go, we’d probably go with the Red Sox in this game. Mikolas just isn’t working very deep in games and he now has to face a Red Sox team that is third in the league in wRC+ against right-handed pitching. This Boston lineup can really get to righties and Kluber hasn’t been as bad as usual lately. However, if we had to bet anything here, we’d strongly suggest looking to the total.
Cardinals vs. Red Sox Total Analysis
It’s really hard not to like the over in a game like this. These are two of the top teams in the league when it comes to wRC, OBP and wRC+. These are simply two teams that can be relied on to score runs, and neither one of the starting pitchers in this game is good enough to scare me off this play.
These teams combined to score 14 runs in the first game in this series, and both have gone over the total more often than not this season — with Boston having done so significantly more often. The over is 26-13-1 in the games the Red Sox have played this season, which is good for a 66.7% hit rate. That might not be a sustainable number, but they have been electric offensively. And we like this Sunday night game to turn into a high-scoring affair.
Cardinals vs. Red Sox Best Bet
We’re keeping it simple and hoping for some runs in this game. These two offenses are going to be eager to go out there and face these pitchers under the lights. And there isn’t much that suggests either one of these starters is capable of preventing the opposing offense from getting hot.
Pick: Over 10 (-110)
