St. Louis Cardinals vs. New York Yankees Prediction:

The St. Louis Cardinals entered their series with the New York Yankees six games out of the final National League Wild Cards spot and look for a much-needed road win on Saturday.

The Yankees give Will Warren the pitching start. Warren has a 9.68 ERA with at least four runs allowed in three of his four starts, allowing 13.2 hits per nine innings.

Though the Cardinals’ 3.9 runs per game on the road is 26th in league, Warren’s other two home starts came against the Colorado Rockies, who are 28th in runs per game on the road, and the Los Angeles Angels, who are 27th in runs per game on the road. He surrendered a combined 14 runs, 13 of which were earned, in 7 1/3 innings.

The Cardinals start Kyle Gibson, who has also struggled, allowing at least four runs in three of his past five starts. He owns a 4.54 ERA overall.

Gibson had done his best work on the road, posting a 3.88 ERA away from St. Louis compared to a 5.24 ERA at home with over 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Yankees offense entered the series leading the American League in scoring with nearly 5.1 runs per game, but they are averaging 4.8 runs per game compared to 5.3 runs per game on the road.

Since July 1, the Yankees are ninth in the league with a bullpen 3.55 ERA. The Cardinals are 10th with a 3.70 ERA. The way Warren has pitched for the Yankees, the Cardinals will be barking as underdogs on Saturday.
