Saturday Best Bet Results

Saturday was an action-packed day of sports and horse betting in the Tuley’s Takes home office with the Belmont Stakes in addition to Game 4 of the NHL Stanley CUp playoffs and a full 15-game MLB card plus the USFL.
And that’s not even counting golf, auto racing, UFC, etc.

Top MLB Resources:

We had a great day here as we went 3-0 with our sports Best Bets on the Golden Knights +100, the Michigan Panthers-Pittsburgh Maulers Under 41 in the USFL and White Sox First 5 Innings +100 vs. the Marlins. We didn’t fare as well with our horse racing picks as we went 0-for-4, though I did have two horses that ran 2nd to cash some Place tickets to cut our losses a little.
My friend, Ed Sehon, picked us up a little. He only had a chalky $5 winner at Monmouth Park in our “Team Tuley” column, but in his “Mr. Ed” piece on Saturday’s Belmont card he had a winner ($8.70), Exacta ($17.40) and Pick 4 ($183.25).
As for my sports winners, we got the Golden Knights overnight at +100 but then it seemed the whole world was with us (especially here in Vegas) as they closed as consensus -116 road favorites. VGK scored just 1:39 into the game, extended its lead to 3-0 in the second period and then held on for dear life for the 3-2 victory to go up 3-1 and one win from bringing Lord Stanley’s Cup to Vegas!
Our USFL win on the Panthers-Maulers Under 41 was even easier as it was never on pace to go Over as both teams were as offensively challenged as we expected in the Maulers’ 19-7 victory.
The MLB winner was a little more in doubt, but Chicago’s Michael Kopech held down the Marlins’ offense like we hoped and Andrew Vaughn homered in the bottom of the 4th inning for the 1-0 lead after 5 innings that we needed. We felt even more justified in playing the First 5 as the Marlins went on to win 5-1.
We’re still losing for the month of June at 10-11-4 for a net loss of just -$21.36 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page but Saturday was a big boost.
Let’s look for Sunday plays with the NBA and NHL both inexplicably taking the day off (might actually catch a movie with the family). I do have two MLB First 5 plays (beware the early start times at 1:40 p.m. and 12:40 p.m. ET (10:40 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. PT here in Vegas), plus a USFL play later in the day (7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT).

MLB Sunday Best Bets

Rangers First 5 Innings +155 at Rays: The Rays are in an “anti-swagger” role after having their 7-game winning streak snapped by the Rangers on Saturday. It’s tough to be going against Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan (9-1, 2.02 ERA), but we obviously like the spot and at last we get Martin Perez (6-1, 3.97 ERA) to keep the Rangers close – and we love the price as we feel this should be closer to pick-’em. This could very well be a scoreless tie with these two pitchers, so we’ll also take a little on the Rangers F5 +0.5 +105 as we cash if it’s 0-0 (or 1-1 or 2-2, etc.).

Astros First 5 Innings +115 at Guardians: The Astros are in a “mini-swagger” spot after snapping their 4-game losing streak on Saturday. Despite the recent skid, the Astros are still the better team and we like the plus-money with Brandon Bielak (3-2, 3.35 ERA) vs. Shane Bieber (4-3, 3.57 ERA) looking like a coin-flip.

USFL Sunday Best Bet

New Jersey Generals +2 vs. Philadelphia Stars: I hinted at this play in Saturday’s column, and after easily cashing with our Maulers-Panthers Under 41 play to improve to 4-0 ATS in the USFL, we’ll take the points here. New Jersey has the worst record in the league at 2-6, but I’m sure most people don’t realize the Generals defense is the best in the league, allowing just 19.1 points per game. The Generals struggled on offense, averaging just 18 points per game (third-worst in the USFL), but they get to face the Stars’ porous defense that allows a league-high 24.8 points per game.
