Saturday Best Bet Results

After a pretty successful week in the Tuley’s Takes home office, Saturday wasn’t our best effort.
We lost our Best Bet on the Giants +1.5 -105 vs. the Padres in Mexico City. It was a rollercoaster as the Giants fell behind 3-0 by the bottom of the 2nd inning, rallied to take an 8-5 lead in the top of the 4th, fell behind 10-8 in the bottom of the 5th (losing for those who played the Giants on the First 5 line), regained an 11-10 lead in the top of the 7th before the Padres scored the last 6 runs of the game for the 16-11 victory.
We also lost our NHL First-Period Over play as the Maple Leafs and Lightning played to a 0-0 scoreless tie in the opening 20 minutes.
I had more success again with my horse racing plays, just like a week ago Saturday. I had three plays in my “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” column. One scratched and one finished out of the money, but Chancery Way went off at 13-1 and stole the lead as I expected and was leading into deep stretch before being passed by a neck at the wire. She still paid a juicy $14 to Place to at least give us a small profit to cut our sports losses.
We don’t have any plays in the NBA or NHL playoffs on Sunday, but we do finally get to see how our XFL play fares that we gave out a week ago on our regular Sunday night appearance on “The Greg Peterson Experience” (I’ll be back on tonight at 11:15 p.m. ET/8:15 p.m. PT) to wrap up the weekend betting action and give some plays for Monday or through the next week.

MLB Sunday Best Bets

Rangers First 5 Innings +115 vs. Yankees: Regular readers will remember that we won with Texas southpaw Martin Perez (3-1, 2.60 ERA) two starts ago but then made the mistake of going against him last Tuesday. We’re not making that mistake again and expecting him to quiet the Yankees’ lineup and get the early money.

Giants-Padres Under 20.5 in Mexico City: I know these two teams played a 16-11 slugfest yesterday and flew Over the betting total of 15 runs but this adjustment to 20.5 runs is just ridiculous (Westgate SuperBook has even gone to 21).

XFL Sunday Best Bet

Seattle Sea Dragons +5 at DC Defenders: We gave this out Sunday night on “The Greg Peterson Experience” when Circa Sports was one of the rare books with early lines on the XFL playoff games this weekend. Unfortunately I couldn’t make the case for the Arlington Renegades as live dogs in Saturday’s semifinal matchup as they upset the Houston Roughnecks 26-11 as 8.5-point road underdogs, but took Seattle in this matchup on Sunday. DC (9-1 SU, 7-3 ATS) was the top team during the regular season, but Seattle lost its first 2 games of the season, including 22-18 at DC, and then went 6-1 the rest of the way with the only other loss to DC, though that was another close game at 34-33. I have this at pick’em, even with DC at home as XFL hosts are went just 19-19-2 (and dropped to 19-20-2 ATS with Houston’s loss on Saturday), so home-field advantage is negligible (even though DC was 4-1 ATS at home, though failed in most recent home game as 10-point chalk in 28-26 win vs. Arlington in Week 9). I believed this line opened too high and wrote in Monday’s version of this column, “we have to take the Sea Dragons at anything more than a field goal.” It was still available at +3.5 as of Tuesday but then dropped to 3 and now is down to 2.5 at a lot of books. We believe the money’s been on the right side, though I wouldn’t blame anyone if they just went with the money line (around +140) with the value gone on the spread.
