Tuley’s Takes Today 9/2: Best Bets in college football Week 1, MLB

131

Thursday felt like Christmas morning in the Tuley’s Takes home office. Even though we got a nice taste of college football last Saturday in the so-called “Week 0,” Thursday felt like the real kickoff of the season as we head into Labor Day Weekend.
It ultimately was a letdown as our “Best Bet” of the day on Louisiana Tech %plussign% 20.5 at Missouri looked promising in the first half but the SEC’s Tigers ran over LaTech and coasted to a 52-24 victory.
At least we won our lone MLB play on the Rangers 1st 5 %plussign% 125 to show a slight profit on the night as they rallied with three runs in the top of the 5th to win the wager 4-2.
Let’s recap the rest of Thursday’s (full-game) betting results and then look for more plays on Friday, including another day of college football heading into the big holiday weekend..

Thursday’s recaps

Top MLB Resources:

CFB: Faves went 6-0 SU on the main betting board, but just 4-2 ATS as Pittsburgh (-7-5 in 38-31 win vs. West Virginia) and Oklahoma State (-20.5 in 58-44 win vs. Central Michigan) failed to cover in their wins. Penn State (-3.5) did cover in a 35-31 win at Purdue. Overs went 5-1.

MLB: Faves went 5-3 Thursday with upsets by the Mets (%plussign% 120 in 5-3 win vs. Dodgers), Orioles (%plussign% 160 in 3-0 win at Guardians) and Diamondbacks (%plussign% 122 in 5-0 win vs. Brewers). Home teams went 6-2. Unders 5-3.

More MLB: Faves lead 1,159-769 SU (60.1 percent) on the season with 30 pick-'ems (faves usually win around 59 percent; still ahead of pace; gap had been narrowing but now back to 60 percent). Home teams lead 1,032-924 (52.8 percent, usually closer to 54 percent but on the rise). Unders lead 963-890-102 (52 percent).

Friday’s Takes

Illinois %plussign% 1.5 at Indiana: We gave this out in yesterday’s column (along with Old Dominion %plussign% 7 vs. Virginia Tech, which is no longer available so hope you grabbed it) as we expect this line to continue to move toward the Illini as well with a likely change of favorite. Now, we would normally say “we like playing a team with a game under its belt,” but we just saw a stat where teams in that spot are actually 48 percent in college football. However, while we lost our bet on Wyoming last Saturday, we came away more impressed with Illinois on both sides of the ball and look for a minor outright upset.

Yankees 1st 5 %plussign% 110 at Rays: We know the Yankees are struggling (and we’ve been happy to fade them several times the past month), but we like them in this spot as try to hold off the Rays in the AL East (lead is down to 6 games heading into this weekend). Domingo German has been solid lately with 1.93 ERA and 0.70 WHIP in last three starts.

Marlins 1st 5 %plussign% 135 at Braves: Sandy Alcantara (12-6, 2.13 ERA, 0.98 WHIP) needs a strong performance in his Cy Young bid and we get a fair price here at the Braves. The Marlins are 2-0 in the previous starts by Alcantara vs. the Braves earlier this season.

Good luck today (and every day!).
