Friday Betting Recaps

Welcome to our daily recap of the sports betting results from the night before.
In case you missed the announcement last week, we’ve started splitting our “Tuley’s Takes” columns into two separate pieces: this FREE article where I recap last night’s betting action and update league-wide ATS stats in the various team sports, and then another one where I give my Best Bets on the day’s wagering menu.
Links to both articles should be found on the VSiN.com home page, though I advise my regular readers to also bookmark my dedicated page at https://vsin.com/news/dave-tuley-columns/.
As for Friday’s sports betting action, the NBA and NHL playoffs took center stage as the NFL Draft moved into its second and third rounds. The Lakers advanced to the NBA conference semifinals and the Hurricanes and Stars moved on in the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs; meanwhile, the Kings-Warriors in the NBA and the Panthers-Bruins and Avalanche-Kraken in the NHL are headed toward decisive Game 7s. Let’s get to the sports-by-sports betting recaps and update the ATS and totals records.

NBA: Kings upset the Warriors 118-99 on Friday night after closing as 7.5-point road underdogs (stayed Under betting total of 220 points) while the Lakers (-5) routed the Grizzlies 125-85 to easily cover as 5-point home faves & win their series 4-2. Faves/dogs and home/road teams split 1-1 SU & ATS on the night. Unders swept 2-0.

More NBA: Faves lead 28-14 SU and 24-18 ATS (57.1%) so far in the 1st round. Home teams lead 26-16 SU and 24-17-1 ATS (58.5%). Over/Unders are back to .500 at 21-21. The “zig-zag theory” (aka "loser of the last") went 2-0 ATS with the KIngs and Lakers both winning after losing their prior games, improving to 18-15-1 ATS overall.

NHL: Dogs went 3-1 Friday with upsets by the Panthers (+160 in 7-5 win vs. Bruins to force Game 7 vs. Presidents’ Trophy winner), Hurricanes (+105 in 2-1 win at Islanders to win series) and Stars (-105 in 4-1 win at Wild to win series). The lone victorious chalk was the Avalanche (-150 in 4-1 win at Kraken to force Game 7 in their series). Road teams went 3-1. Unders were also 3-1.

More NHL: Underdogs improved to 23-20 overall in the 1st round with 1 game closing pick-’em. Road team improved to an impressive 27-17. Overs still lead 23-21. The "zig-zag" split 2-2 but still leads 20-16.

MLB: Faves went 10-2 Friday with the only upsets by the Phillies (+133 in 3-1 win at Astros) and Marlins (+103 in 3-2 win vs. Cubs). Home/road teams split 6-6. Unders led 7-3-1 with no-action on the ATL-NYM shortened 5-inning game. The push was in NYY-TEX (7). On the season, faves 241-147 with 7 PKs. Home teams lead 201-194. Overs lead 190-183-21 (50.9%) with 1 no-action.
