NBA Best Bets Today – February 24

Brooklyn Nets at Minnesota Timberwolves – 9:00 pm ET

The Nets got blown out by the Toronto Raptors in their first game under interim head coach Kevin Ollie. However, I do think Ollie is going to do a better job with Brooklyn than Jacque Vaughn did. Ollie was under serious consideration for the Detroit Pistons job in the offseason. And he has proven he can win at every level. That said, I think it’s only a matter of time before we see some inspired ball from a Nets team that is more talented than people think. And I love the spot for this group tonight. Minnesota is coming off an emotional loss to the Milwaukee Bucks last night. Now, the Timberwolves have to turn around and play the second night of a back-to-back. And even though it is two home games in a row, I think it’s unfair to ask the Wolves to win this by nine or more. And doing so with an offense that is just 16th in the league in adjusted offensive rating will be hard enough. The Nets are not a good defensive team, but they won’t have to sweat getting torched by the Timberwolves. I also think this is a game that Cam Thomas can swing in Brooklyn’s direction. The Nets will need his offense against an elite defensive opponent. And his offense will be somewhat hidden if he is covering Mike Conley here. Overall, Brooklyn is undoubtedly uninspiring, but I trust them enough as an NBA best bet tonight.

Bet: Nets +8 (-110 – 1.5 units)

NBA Player Props Today – February 24

Boston Celtics at New York Knicks – 8:30 pm ET

I don’t really love going with Unders for NBA player props, but this is going to be a tough game for Jalen Brunson. In three games against the Celtics this year, Brunson is averaging only 21.3 points per game on 40.7% shooting from the floor. He’s also shooting just 30.0% from 3 against Boston. The fact of the matter here is that the Celtics have two of the league’s best perimeter defenders: Jrue Holiday and Derrick White. Those two will likely take turns defending Brunson, and Boston can also send help in his direction. The Knicks are still without OG Anunoby and Julius Randle, meaning there aren’t many players for Boston to fear. That means that the Celtics can get a little more aggressive with Brunson than usual. The only thing I’m worried about in this game is that Brunson will likely get up a ton of shots. And his type of volume is hard to bet against. But I think Brunson will struggle with his efficiency in this game, so I’m still willing to go Under.

Bet: Brunson Under 28.5 Points (-108)
