Philadelphia 76ers at Detroit Pistons – 7:30 pm ET
Under JB Bickerstaff, the Pistons are just 21-27 against the spread when facing teams that shoot at least 36.0% from 3. That’s an interesting trend heading into tonight’s matchup. While Detroit is third in the league in defensive rating (109.9), the team will be without Ausar Thompson this evening. He’s the best wing defender the Pistons have. Also, Cade Cunningham, Isaiah Stewart, and Jalen Duren are all questionable. There’s a good shot we see some of those guys out there tonight, but I’m not sure Detroit should be trusted to put away Philadelphia easily.
The 76ers have a very explosive backcourt, plus a good rest advantage. Philadelphia hasn’t played since Tuesday, which should give VJ Edgecombe a good shot at playing tonight. He’s listed as questionable with back spasms. If Edgecombe is out there with Tyrese Maxey, the Pistons are going to need to play uncharacteristically well on offense in order to win by a big margin.
Philadelphia is also 0-1 in East: Group B. That means the 76ers can use this game a little more than the Pistons, who are currently 1-0 in group play. That extra incentive to win should go a long way when coupled with Philly’s fifth-ranked offense (119.1).
Bet: 76ers +5.5 (-110)
Los Angeles Lakers at New Orleans Pelicans – 8:00 pm ET
The Pelicans are going to get clowned all year, as they dealt a valuable 2026 NBA Draft pick to move up for Derik Queen. Now, with New Orleans sitting at 2-9 on the season, that pick looks like it’ll be a top-five selection in a loaded draft class — and it’s not like the Pelicans front office shouldn’t have seen this coming. However, it doesn’t bother me how bad this team is. Covering is covering. Well, New Orleans is 4-1 ATS over the last five games. And part of the recent spike in competitiveness has been Queen’s superb play. He has scored in double figures in five straight games, and he has also had at least four assists in three of those five.
The Lakers are obviously a very good offensive team. They’re also coming off a blowout loss to the Thunder, so they could be eager to get back in the win column with a convincing victory. However, Los Angeles’ defense leaves a lot to be desired. The Pelicans could also get up for an NBA Cup game, as they’re not out of things in the group.
The Lakers are also just 2-6 ATS as road favorites of 6.5 to 12 points under JJ Redick. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are 12-10 ATS as home underdogs of 6.5 to 12 points under Willie Green.
Bet: Pelicans +10.5 (-108)
Golden State Warriors at San Antonio Spurs – 9:30 pm ET
The Warriors earned a 125-120 win over the Spurs the other night, coming away with a victory in their first game with a new startling lineup — that includes Moses Moody and Will Richard. In that game, Steph Curry dropped 46 points. Jimmy Butler also added 28 points. Now, Golden State will look to win a second straight game in San Antonio, and I’m not overly convinced the Warriors are the right side.
Golden State is still just 2-6 both SU and ATS on the road this season. The Warriors are also tasked with beating the same team twice — and doing so in their building. This is also a Spurs team that happens to be pretty good. And since the start of last season, San Antonio is 4-2 SU when looking for revenge against an opponent after losing as a favorite in the previous game.
This just feels like a real bounce-back spot for the Spurs. We probably won’t see another 74 combined from Curry and Butler. I also think that the NBA Cup means San Antonio is even more likely to win. The Spurs are 1-0 in group play, so they can really help themselves with a win. I’m not sure the Warriors, who are 0-1 in the group, will care as much. Golden State is playing for championships.
