Los Angeles Clippers at Phoenix Suns – 10:00 pm ET

A lot of people clowned Mat Ishbia and Brian Gregory when they said Phoenix would be a tougher team this year. It’s hard to make those types of statements when you don’t know what your roster will look like, which is precisely what the Suns decision-makers did. However, early in the season, it does look like there’s an improved culture in the Valley. The Suns are currently ninth in the NBA in half-court defense, allowing only 94.0 points per 100 possessions. That should be big as they take on a Clippers team that will be without James Harden and Kawhi Leonard tonight. Los Angeles is a deep team so the group won’t be completely void of offense this evening. However, it is hard to imagine the Clippers coming up with enough against a juiced-up Suns team.

Phoenix will be getting Jalen Green back from his hamstring injury tonight, giving the Suns a player that can go for 25 points on any given night. He should give this group a huge lift, which will be interesting to see. Phoenix has already been turning a corner lately, with Devin Booker playing some of the best basketball of his career. Thriving as a primary on-ball option, Booker is averaging 31.0 points and 7.0 assists per game on 51.6/43.1/86.1 shooting splits. The Suns are also getting some rock-solid play from some of their rotation pieces, so there’s a real chance the infusion of Green’s firepower will make Phoenix a tough team to beat on a nightly basis — especially once Dillon Brooks is back.

The Suns are also 3-1 straight-up at the Mortgage Matchup Center this year. Meanwhile, under Ty Lue, the Clippers are just 33-73 SU as road underdogs. I don’t see that changing with this being Los Angeles’ third game in four nights. Don’t be surprised if the Suns just look a little quicker and more explosive than the opponent tonight.
