Thursday Player Prop Best Bets

Below you’ll find my official plays on the player prop market for Thursday. These are the ones that make the VSiN Pro Picks page and count towards my season-long record.

LaMelo Ball Over 20.5 Points (-115) vs. Magic

Magic at Hornets – 7:00 pm ET

Ball has scored at least 21 points in four of the last six games, and I like the Magic as a matchup for him. Orlando has a strong defensive system, which is why this has been a top-10 defensive team for years. However, the Magic are alright with giving up tough pull-up jumpers, as those are some of the most inefficient shots an opponent can take. That’s a sound strategy against a lot of players, but Ball is comfortable taking bad shots. Orlando is also last in the league when it comes to defending in isolation, so Ball should be able to create for himself. I also like him to do some damage as a scorer in pick-and-roll actions, as the Magic are just 21st in the NBA when it comes to guarding ball handlers on those plays. Ball scores 7.2 points per game in PnRs, so he should take advantage. He should also benefit from Anthony Black and Franz Wagner being out. Those are two of the Magic’s best perimeter defenders.

Jeremiah Fears Over 11.5 Points (-110 – 1.5 units) & Alt Points 15+ (+170 – 0.5 units) vs. Clippers

Clippers at Pelicans – 8:00 pm ET

I mentioned potentially adding Fears to go Over his point total on today’s episode of Hardwood Handicappers. Well, I’m officially locking this one in. Fears is averaging 14.9 points per game in the last seven games he has played without Dejounte Murray, who is doubtful to play this evening. That means we should see right around 30 minutes out of the talented rookie tonight. Of course, this is a pretty difficult matchup, as the Clippers have some awesome point-of-attack defenders. But Fears is lightning-quick with the ball in his hands, so he should still be able to get himself to the rim. That said, if he can knock down some 3s, he should fly Over the number tonight. That’s why I’m also sprinkling Fears to score at least 15 points.

Devin Booker Over 27.5 Points (-112) vs. Spurs

Suns at Spurs – 8:00 pm ET

I don’t normally like playing giant point totals, but Booker has been on a tear for Phoenix. In the last seven games he has played — all without Dillon Brooks and Mark Williams — the superstar is averaging 33.9 points per game. He has also had at least 30 points in six of the seven, and the one game he didn’t score 28 was in a 27-point performance. Booker is really benefitting from having Jalen Green on the floor, as there’s now someone else that defenses have to pay close attention to. Before Green started to pick up his scoring, it was a little too easy for opponents to force the ball out of Booker’s hands. That’s no longer an option. So, with Booker getting to attack more one-on-one coverages, he’s back to looking like a killer. And while this is undoubtedly a tough match, I do think he’ll score at least 28 points — even if he isn’t as efficient as usual. Booker has already had one game with 28 points against San Antonio this season, and his increased usage with Brooks out (33.2% without vs. 30.0% with) should mean another.
