Phyllis George, a TV broadcasting pioneer as co-host of CBS NFL Today, has died because of complications from a long-time illness, the Louisville Courier-Journal reported Saturday. She was 70.

Brent Musburger, VSiN's managing editor and George's colleague on the ground-breaking studio show along with Irv Cross and the late Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder, paid tribute to her.

"Phyllis George was special. Her smile lit up millions of homes for the NFL Today.

"Phyllis didn’t receive nearly enough credit for opening the sports broadcasting door for the dozens of talented women who took her lead and soared.

"Folks — men and women — were comfortable with Phyllis talking about their favorite sport. And in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, they loved Phyllis despite her Dallas Cowboy bias!

"RIP Phyllis. Irv Cross and I will miss you dearly."
