Eagles vs. Bears Analysis
Caleb Williams is out for a couple of weeks, making for an interesting handicap here. However, it’s important to remember that Ben Johnson is arguably the best play caller in the NFL, meaning there’s a good chance this offense looks just fine. Chicago also happens to have some good backups, as both Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum have started games in this league. That said, if you’re looking at this game and thinking the Eagles are the easy play, you might want to think again. And, according to our Circa Sports betting splits, most of the public feels it is a straightforward game. That’s rarely a good thing for the majority.
Chicago also happens to be 3-1 against the spread as a home underdog under Johnson, and the team is also 3-1 both straight-up and ATS off a division loss under him. I tend to think we’ll see an inspired effort out of the Bears here. However, for my money, the Over is the best play you can make in this one.
I know the Eagles don’t like to get themselves involved in shootouts, but do they really have a choice here? Chicago is currently No. 21 in the NFL in EPA/Play Allowed (0.042), so Philadelphia is going to be able to move the ball in this one. That should mean the Eagles will put up a good amount of points. But I also see the Bears doing the same. Even without Williams, we’re talking about a Chicago team with a stacked group of skill-position players. Keenum also happens to be a player who has started playoff games before.
I just view this as a game in which we’re overreacting to the Williams news, and the number is simply too low for two teams with good players on offense. Under Nick Sirianni, the Eagles are 8-6 to the Over when playing in games with totals between 35.5 and 42 points. The Over is also 2-0 when the Bears play after a home loss under Johnson.
As long as the weather cooperates — and it looks like it should — I’m expecting at least 42 points in this game.
Eagles vs. Bears Player Props
Case Keenum Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (+210 – 0.5 units)
Considering I lean Bears and have a play on the Over, I clearly think Keenum can do some damage through the air. Johnson might have a run-heavy game plan in place, but Keenum can definitely hit someone deep. I also think he can work off the run in the red zone. At +210 odds, I think it’s worth taking a chance on him to throw for a modest two touchdowns.
Eagles vs. Bears Pick
I completely get how important Williams is to the Bears offense, but we’ve seen worse backups come in and handle their business before. Chicago has two good ones for this exact situation, and I think Keenum can deliver with the pieces he has around him. So, I’m leaning Bears in this game, but I am playing the Over. It might not be pretty, but the number is too low to lay off of.
Bet: Over 41.5 (-105 – 1.5 units) & Keenum Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (+210 – 0.5 units)
