New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars – 1:00 pm ET
The Jaguars are coming off a loss last week, but there’s no shame in losing to the Broncos. That was a meeting between two teams that can easily work themselves deep into the AFC playoffs. Denver just so happened to be the home team. Well, Jacksonville will be the home team in this meeting with New England, giving the Jaguars a little bit of an edge. However, beyond that, I currently view them as a better team than the Patriots.
It’s very early in the season, but Jacksonville currently resides in Tier 2 when looking at RBSDM’s EPA tiers. New England is barely in Tier 3. The Patriots are undoubtedly a strong defensive team, but very little separates these teams on that side of the ball. The difference between the two is on offense, as the Jaguars have a balanced lineup and an excellent play caller. The Patriots have the latter, along with a talented quarterback, but they’re missing AJ Brown. This is the exact type of game in which that could come back to haunt them.
Our VSiN matchup page for this game calls for the Jaguars to win by 3.0. I see it being a little more lopsided than that, but we have -2.5 in case it is decided by a field goal.
Bet: Jaguars -2.5 (-120)
Tennessee Titans at New York Giants – 1:00 pm ET
It might be hard to get on board with backing the Giants without Jaxson Dart, and it’s probably harder considering how poorly Jameis Winston played against the Rams. However, we haven’t seen anything through two weeks that suggests Tennessee is better than New York. The Giants are currently last in the NFL in EPA/Play Allowed (0.257), but it’s early enough in the season that each game can really change stats. Well, New York got carved up by Los Angeles in the Sunday Night Football game, and this Titans offense isn’t the Rams offense.
I’d be very surprised if Cam Ward can go on the road and deliver a victory — or cover 2.5 points — against a tough team with playoff aspirations. As things stand, the Titans are ranked 20th or worse in both EPA/Play and EPA/Play Allowed.
I’m also not too worried about Winston. Sure, last week was absolutely miserable, but his track record as a starter speaks for itself. Honestly, a good argument can be made that he’s the best backup in the league, and a week of reps with the starters should do him wonders. His timing looked off in Week 2, and that should get there as he gets more familiar with his weapons.
John Harbaugh has also been outrageously productive in games with lines between +3 and -3. In his career, his teams are 79-53 straight-up and 73-49 against the spread in those games.
Bet: Giants -2.5 (-118)
Ravens at Cowboys – 4:25 pm ET
Henry is averaging 106.0 yards per game through two weeks, and his 144-yard performance against the Colts helped. He absolutely dominated Indianapolis between the tackles, and something tells me he’ll do the same to Dallas. In Week 1, the Cowboys gave up 165 rushing yards against the Giants. Dallas also allowed 182 rushing yards against Washington last week. As of right now, despite all the offseason moves the Cowboys made to address their defense, they’re No. 24 in the NFL in Rush EPA/Play Allowed (-0.003). That’s trouble heading into a meeting with Henry, who can run over defenders up the middle or utilize his quickness to break off a long one.
In Henry’s last 11 games against bottom-10 opponents in rushing yards allowed, the future Hall of Famer is averaging 104.1 rushing yards per game. He has also gone Over 85.5 rushing yards in six of the 11.
I’ll also note that Henry rushed for 151 yards the last time he played at Jerry World. That was a different defense, but he’ll enjoy the atmosphere — and extra eyeballs.
Bet: Henry Over 85.5 Rushing Yards (-135)
