Today’s NHL schedule features nine games and there are plenty of player prop betting opportunities. Here are my three favorite shot props for Tuesday, February 21st. All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook.
Nikita Kucherov Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-130)
The Lightning have been on the road for four games, and Kucherov’s shot total has stayed under in seven of the last eight games, but Anaheim continues to bleed shots on a nightly basis, and this is great spot for the star winger to bounce back. The Ducks have allowed 39-plus shots in 15 of their last 20 games and they’ll be tired after going to overtime with Florida on Monday and facing 55 shots on goal.
Tampa Bay generates more shots at home than they do on the road, and so does Nikita Kucherov. Anaheim allowed the most shots in the NHL at even strength and only one team has taken more penalties per game this season so the Lightning’s top powerplay, which includes Kucherov, should see more playing time than they usually do.
Note: Kucherov has only scored four goals in his last 15 games after potting 17 in the first 40 games he played.
Brent Burns Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-125) at DraftKings Sportsbook
St. Louis allowed 36 shots on goal when they hosted the Hurricanes back on Dec. 1st and they give up more when they’re on the road. The Hurricanes are arguably the league’s best team when it comes to shots volume, and the Blues’ roster has gotten quite a bit weaker since trading Vladimir Tarasenko and Ryan O’Reilly earlier this month.
Burns has played more minutes per game than any other Hurricanes’ skater and only two of his teammates have generated more shots this season. Burns also tends to shoot more at home, like a lot of volume shooters. He’s registered at least three shots in 17 out of 27 home games and this prop has cashed in 15 of his last 22 games dating back to Dec. 23rd.
Teuvo Teravainen Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-120) at DraftKings Sportsbook
Head coach Rod Brind ’Amour tweaked his lineup back on Feb. 16th, having Teuvo Teravainen and Andrei Svechnikov swap places, and at first blush, it seemed like the former was getting the short end of the stick. However, Teravainen has been one of the Hurricanes’ top shot generators over the last couple of weeks, he’s registered at least three shots in six out of his last seven games and even though he was moved off the top line, he is still an important part of the top power play unit and -120 is a short price.
