NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Here are tonight’s NHL predictions and best bets.
Columbus Blue Jackets at Minnesota Wild
Columbus (+150) at Minnesota (-185) – Total 6 (-128)
6 p.m. ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets will take their third shot at back-to-back wins as they face the Wild in Minnesota today. Columbus is coming off a 1-0 overtime win over the Rangers on Saturday night. With Jet Greaves getting the start on Saturday, Cam Talbot will be between the pipes for the Jackets on Sunday. The Minnesota Wild last played on Thursday when they defeated the St. Louis Blues, 5-4 and have a decided rest advantage. The Wild scored 4+ goals and covered the puck line (-1.5 goals) in four of their five wins, and the Jackets have given up 4+ goals and lost by 2+ goals in each of their three losses.
A couple of Columbus players props on my card. Kent Johnson has scored goals in three straight and scored the first goal in each of the last two Jackets games, and today he celebrates his 24th birthday. Zach Werenski has 11 points in 15 games versus the Wild and scored twice in the one game he faced Minnesota goalie Jesper Wallstedt. When it comes to getting his team on the board first, Wild’s Matt Boldy is one of the best. He scored Minnesota’s first goal of the game 17 times last season (leading the team) and has opened the scoring for Minnesota in three of the last four games. Boldy has scored three goals in four games versus Columbus starting goalie for today, Cam Talbot.
Kirill Kaprizov leads the NHL with nine goals this season, and he has 11 goals in nine games against the Jackets; he has lit up Talbot, scoring seven goals in the four games he has faced Talbot in his career. Joel Eriksson Ek has registered 3+ shots on goal in six of his last eight games overall and 2+ shots in seven of his last eight versus Columbus. Blake Coleman has had at least two shots on goal in seven straight games against the Jackets.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:

Matt Boldy anytime goal (+155) – 1 unit
Kirill Kaprizov anytime goal (+100) – 1 unit

Kent Johnson anytime goal (+380) – ¼ unit
Kent Johnson 3+ shots on goal (+205) – ¼ unit
Werenski/Johnson point parlay (+135) – ½ unit
Minnesota Wild -1.5 goals (+136) – ½ unit
Minnesota Wild Team Total Over 3.5 (-118) – ½ unit
Carolina Hurricanes at Calgary Flames
Carolina (-220) at Calgary (+180) – Total 6 (-115)
8 p.m. ET
After dropping their first two games of the season, the Carolina Hurricanes have reeled off seven consecutive wins and given up two or fewer goals in six of the seven wins. The Canes have surrendered just three third period goals this season, which is tied with Buffalo for the fewest goals given up in the final 20 minutes of the game. Calgary is well on their way to being the worst team in the NHL season. The Flames have lost six of their first seven games to start the season. They have given up four or more goals in all six of their losses, lost all six by 2+ goals and five times by three goals or more.
Former Calgary Flames forward Mark Jankowski has goals in six consecutive games (longest current streak in the NHL). Sebastian Aho (13 pts) and Andrei Svechnikov (11 pts) lead the Canes in scoring, and both have good numbers against Calgary. Aho has 17 points in 18 career games versus Calgary, and Svechnikov has 11 points in 13 career games. A couple of Hurricanes shots-on-goal props that I like for today. Shayne Gostisbehere has had 2+ shots on goal in five straight and six of seven games, and has hit this mark in four of his last six games against the Flames. Calgary’s Joel Farabee has had at least two shots on goal in five straight games and has scored two goals in two games on four shots against Canes starting goalie Brandon Bussi.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Carolina Hurricanes Team Total Over 3.5 (-122) – ¾ units
Carolina Hurricanes Team Total Over 4.5 (+190) – ¼ unit
Carolina Hurricanes -1.5 goals (+110) – ¾ units
Carolina Hurricanes -2.5 goals (+174) – ¼ unit
Mark Jankowski anytime goal (+390) – ¼ unit
Mark Jankowski Over ½ assist (+320) – ¼ unit
Aho 1+ points/Svechnikov 1+ points/Gostisbehere 2+ shots on goal (+203) – ½ unit
