NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Here are tonight’s NHL predictions and best bets.
Utah Mammoth at New York Rangers
Utah (+105) at New York Rangers (-125) – Total 5.5 (Over, -120)
6 p.m. ET
The Utah Mammoth are coming off a 4-1 win on Saturday at Utah Columbus and have opened the season with a pair of victories, outscoring the opposition 10-1. Utah goalie Sebastian Cossa stopped 17 of 18 shots in getting his second career NHL win in his first career NHL start. Dylan Guenther and Nick Schmaltz lead the Mammoth in the early going with three goals. Guenther has scored all three of his goals on the power play as the Mammoth have made the opposition pay for taking penalties, scoring on five of their seven chances with the extra man.
The power play will get a stiffer test today as the Rangers are a perfect 10 for 10 on the penalty kill. Forward Clayton Keller leads the team with four assists, but he is still looking for his first goal of the season, and today looks like a great spot for him to find the back of the net. The Utah forward has 10 goals in 15 games against the Rangers, including five goals on 17 shots (seven games) versus Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin. Today will also be the first time Vincent Trocheck will face his former team since his off-season trade to Utah. Never a bad idea to sprinkle on his props. This is Utah’s third game in four days, and they are on the second half of a back-to-back.
After being shut out 3-0 by Boston on opening night, the Rangers have bounced back with a pair of wins over Tampa (5-1) and Detroit (2-0). Eeli Tolvanen leads the Rangers with two goals, and Adam Fox has the team lead with three points (all assists). Alexis Lafreniere has three goals in five games versus Utah goalie Karel Vejmelka. The Mammoth won both meetings last season by identical 3-2 scores (one in overtime) and have won three of the last four overall. Both projected starting goalies have struggled against their opposition for today. Karl Vejmelka is 2-3 with a 4.27 goals against average, while Igor Shesterkin is 1-0-1 (3 starts) with a 3.94 goals against average.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Over 5.5 (-120) – 1 unit
Clayton Keller anytime goal (+245) – ½ unit
Alexis Lafreniere anytime goal (+250) – ¼ unit
Adam Fox Over ½ assist (-120) – ¼ unit
Vincent Trocheck anytime goal (+400) – ¼ unit
Vincent Trocheck Over ½ assist (+195) – ¼ unit
Calgary Flames at Seattle Kraken
Calgary (+130) at Seattle (-150) – Total 5.5 (Over, -120)
8 p.m. ET
These two teams met three days ago in Calgary, with the Kraken cruising to a 6-1 win over Calgary, and have now outscored the Flames 15-3 in winning three straight over their division rivals dating back to last season. Both teams are coming off losses last night: the Kraken lost 3-1 in Edmonton, and the Flames fell 4-1 in Vancouver. Goals continue to be hard to come by for Calgary, as they have scored just one goal in each of their first two games of the season. The Flames continue to be a great team to bet the team total Under 2.5 goals. Last season, Calgary scored two goals or less in 45 of their 82 games.
A couple of Kraken players on my radar today include Matty Beniers, who has five goals and 10 points in 15 games versus Calgary and three goals on nine shots against Flames projected starter Dustin Wolf. Beniers scored and added an assist in the 6-1 win three days ago. Chandler Stephenson also found the back of the net in that game and now has three goals on nine shots versus Flames netminder Dustin Wolf. Two other Kraken players to consider. Kaapo Kakko has four goals and 10 points in 14 games versus the Flames, and Chandler Stephenson has three goals on nine shots versus Wolf.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Calgary Flames TT Under 2.5 (-118) – 1 unit
Seattle Kraken TT Over 3 (-135) – 1 unit
Seattle Kraken TT Over 3.5 (+124) – ½ unit
Matty Beniers anytime goal (+300) – ¼ unit
Matty Beniers Over ½ assist (+210) – ¼ unit
Kaapo Kakko Over ½ point (+140) – ½ point
Chandler Stephenson anytime goal (+500) – ¼ unit
Florida Panthers at Anaheim Ducks
Florida (-135) at Anaheim (+115) – Total 6.5 (Over, -115)
8 p.m. ET
On Saturday, the Florida Panthers announced that captain Sasha Barkov would be going on long-term injured reserve after being injured in Florida’s game Thursday at San Jose. With Barkov out, Anton Lundell should see his role increase at both five-on-five and power play time. Lundell has six points in nine career games versus Anaheim. Brady Tkachuk is still looking for his first Panthers goal. He has a decent history against the Ducks with six goals in 13 games versus Anaheim. On the Ducks side, Cutter Gauthier has four goals and 13 shots on goal in his last two games versus the Panthers.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Anton Lundell Over ½ assist (+260) – ½ unit
Cutter Gauthier 4+ shots on goal (+110) – 1 unit
Cutter Gauthier 5+ shots on goal (+235) – ¼ unit
Cutter Gauthier anytime goal (+170) – ¼ unit
Vegas Golden Knights at Vancouver Canucks
Vegas (-280) at Vancouver (+225) – Total 6 (Over, -120)
8 p.m. ET
We should see goals tonight. The Golden Knights played to the Over in each of their first two games (5-2 and 4-3). The Canucks have scored four goals or more in each of their first three games, led by Paul Cotter and Marco Rossi, each with three goals and two from Elias Pettersson (forward). Cotter is facing his former Vegas team for the fifth time in his career and is still seeking his first goal against his former team. I am going to hold off on Canucks player props for now until we get goalie confirmation. I do have a couple of Golden Knights player props. Ivan Barbashev has four goals in seven games against Canucks goalie Kevin Lankinen, and Victor Olofsson has four goals in eight games against the Vancouver netminder. Shea Theodore has points in each of the first two games to start the season. He has points in four straight and five of the last six head-to-head meetings with the Canucks.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Over 6 (-120) – 1unit
Ivan Barbashev anytime goal (+290) – ¼ unit
Victor Olofsson anytime goal (+350) – ¼ unit
Shea Theodore Over ½ point (-125) – 1 unit
