NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Here are tonight’s NHL predictions and best bets.
Vancouver Canucks at Carolina Hurricanes
Vancouver (+280) at Carolina (-350) – Total 6.5 (Under, -120)
7 p.m. ET
This game fits our system play of jumping on the underdog (Vancouver) to score a first period goal when facing a favorite of (-300 or greater). The Canucks have already been in this spot one time this season, scoring a first period goal against the Golden Knights. In their previous six games against the Canes, they have scored a first period goal in five of the six.
Elias Pettersson (forward) is tied with Paul Cotter for the team scoring lead with six points. Petey has six goals and 15 points in 14 career games against the Hurricanes. Sebastian Aho leads the Canes in scoring (four goals, three assists) to start the season and has feasted on Canucks starting goalie for tonight, Kevin Lankinen, with six goals in 10 games. Andrei Svechnikov is right there with his linemate, finding the back of the net seven times in nine games.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Vancouver Canucks 1st period Over ½ goal (-120) – 1 unit
Andrei Svechnikov anytime goal (+154) – ½ unit
Sebastian Aho anytime goal (+165) – ½ unit
Elias Pettersson Over ½ point (-105) – ¼ unit
Philadelphia Flyers at Ottawa Senators
Philadelphia (+145) at Ottawa (-180) – Total 5.5 (Over, -115)
7 p.m. ET
The Senators return home tonight for their home opener after winning two of three on the road to start the season. The Flyers are still in search of their first win this season (0-2-2), having been outscored 17-5. Tim Stutzle leads Ottawa with six points (three goals and three assists) and has scored 11 goals in 15 career games against the Flyers. He also has three goals in six games against Joseph Woll (when he played for Toronto), who gets the start tonight for Philly. Former Flyer Claude Giroux has 13 points in 12 games against the team where he began his career. For the Flyers, Tyson Foerster has four goals in four games versus Sens goalie Linus Ullmark, while Matvei Michkov has two goals in three games versus the Ottawa netminder.
Two of their three meetings last season went past regulation and four of the last six overall.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Claude Giroux assist (+215) – ½ unit
Tim Stutzle anytime goal (+190) – ½ unit
Stutzle/Batherson point parlay (-128) – ½ unit
Tyson Forester anytime goal (+320) – ¼ unit
Matvei Michkov anytime goal (+250) – ¼ unit
Colorado Avalanche at Calgary Flames
Colorado (-240) at Calgary (+195) – Total 6.5 (Under, -125)
9 p.m. ET
The Avs are coming off a disappointing 3-2 loss last night in Winnipeg despite outshooting the Jets, 34-19. Tonight, they get a Flames team that has been held to one goal in each of their first three games (all losses) and has scored two goals or fewer in eight of their last 10 head-to-head meetings with the Avalanche. The Avs have also scored a first period goal against Calgary in nine of their past 10 meetings. This will be Nazem Kadri’s first game back in Calgary since he was traded last season. In his one meeting against the Flames last season in Colorado, he scored twice and had five shots on goal. Nathan MacKinnon was held to one shot on goal last night. Last season, when he had fewer than three shots on goal in a game, he followed it up with at least four shots on goal the next game in 15 of 19 games. Calgary native Cale Makar has had points in three of his last four games in his hometown (two multi-point games). Devin Cooley starts for Calgary tonight.
NHL Predictions and Best Bets:
Colorado Avalanche 1st goal/1st period (-125) – 1 unit
Calgary Flames Team Total Under 2.5 (-132) – 3 units
Nathan MacKinnon 4+ SOG/Kadri 3+ SOG (+208) – 2 units
Nazem Kadri anytime goal (+240) – ¼ unit
Cale Makar 2+ points (+146) – ½ unit
