The 2026 tennis season has moved into the Asian Swing, and we’ll be paying close attention to the ATP Masters 1000 in Shanghai. This is an interesting portion of the season, as nobody is thinking about Grand Slams. Everyone is simply jockeying for year-end positioning. The conditions are different, too. The courts and the humidity in China play differently than the North American hard courts, and that affects who can control rallies, who can hold serve, and who even has the physicality required to finish matches.
Fortunately for all of us, there’s no shortage of matches to break down as the week unfolds, and I’ll keep posting my tennis best bets daily. Because of the time difference, matches overnight in the US run across two calendar days. With that in mind, keep reading for my tennis best bets for Sunday, October 11 and Monday, October 12. Also, keep an eye on the new VSiN Community and the VSiN Pro Picks page for other plays.
NOTE: Gill Alexander, host of A Numbers Game, posts a bunch of tennis plays to the VSiN picks page. He does a great job handicapping tennis. That page is also where I post all of my Challenger-level picks + plays for all of the tournaments I’m not writing up daily.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Taylor Fritz
The TennisViz numbers I have don’t account for Grand Slams. However, Tsitsipas’ Performance Rating is up at 8.25 since the Greek star arrived in Asia, and that’s across a nice sample of six matches. Tsitsipas also happened to play extremely well at the US Open, beating Arthur Fils, Lloyd Harris, and Jiri Lehecka before coming up short against Ben Shelton. That said, we have now seen Tsitsipas in strong form for 10 matches. And to give you an idea of how good a Performance Rating of 8.25 is, Fritz is actually No. 5 in the world in Performance Rating with a score of 8.20. That’s right, Tsitsipas’ recent level of play has been top-five quality, and it has actually been better than Fritz’s 2026 level.
Looking at this match, it’s just hard not to feel like there’s a ton of value on the underdog. This is a matchup between two big, powerful players, so Tsitsipas should at least put himself in positions to win late-set situations — or tiebreakers. These are the types of matches that I believe should be closer to 50-50, as some luck does come into play in the later stages of them.
Tsitsipas also happens to be 4-2 in six career meetings with Fritz, and one of those matches came in similarly quick conditions earlier this year. Back in January, Tsitsipas earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over the American at the United Cup.
I also feel like this is a match Tsitsipas will want a bit more. While Fritz is still in the picture in the ATP Finals race, Tsitsipas realizes the importance of continuing to climb in the rankings. Now that he’s starting to find his game, it’s important that he does everything he can to prevent another slide. Better seeding in bigger tournaments would be huge for him.
Bet: Tsitsipas ML (+144)
Valentin Vacherot vs. Tommy Paul
To this point, facing Vacherot in Shanghai has been like taking on CM Punk in Chicago. The Monegasque won this 1000-level event last year, and he kicked off his title defense with a straight-set win over Sebastian Baez. Also, the massive 27-year-old played extremely well in Japan last week, beating Alexander Blockx, Tsitsipas, and Arthur Fils before losing to Jiri Lehecka in the semifinals. There’s just something about this time of year that brings out the best in Vacherot, and Paul is going to have to find a way to deal with it on Monday. I’m not sure he can.
Outside of an elite ability to cover the court, Paul’s best weapon has always been his backhand. But over the last 52 weeks, Vacherot’s TennisViz Backhand Quality is up at 7.37 and Paul’s is 7.23. I’m not sure the American is going to win as many of the backhand-to-backhand exchanges as he’d like. Vacherot’s serve is also way more reliable than Paul’s serve. Over the last 52 weeks, Vacherot is eighth on the ATP Tour in Serve Quality (8.71). Paul is 50 spot below him on that list, as his number is down at 7.95.
I also strongly believe Vacherot’s match fitness and physicality will hold up well against Paul’s, taking away another clear advantage for the American. So, at plus-money odds, give me the guy desperately looking to back up last year’s win. I don’t think Vacherot can actually do that, but I do expect him to handle his business against the right opponents.
Bet: Vacherot ML (+126)
Added Plays
I usually have A LOT MORE on the Pro Picks page. Those plays count towards my record and have been a big part of my success this season. Make sure you check them out. I’ll probably add a few more over there, so refresh that page throughout the day if you’re looking for action.
